2022 NRL ratings

Or the alternative view is that having taken major funding reductions during Covid, like the nrl, they have managed to get a massive 2 year deal that has helped them claw those losses back. if we’d been able to do the same our Australian part of the deal would have gone up from $1.9bill to around $2bill!

given the tv companies pressure on both codes to reduce the deals why would seven and fox agree to that for afl? Either way it’s a bloody good deal that recoups the covid period losses, thats as you say if it does end up being $473mill a year.
hahaha
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
the alternate view of a vicky kicky cheer leader sure

the NRL clawed back their losses too & another 100 mill $$ despite your inaccurate moaning they didn't , except they didn't ask their partners to help them look like they got a huge increase that they ...actually didn't

fact is
the awful are getting no more then they did in 2023/24 that they were in 2017
the NRL are getting a slight increase in 2023-27 then they were in 2018

TV deals are all under close scrutiny from broadcasters atm

How did they? When did they?20&21 nrl got a reduction of an estimated $55million From its Australian tv partners. Wheres that been made up? The new tv deal has no extra cash from the Australian partners!

Again rubbish, afl got $416mill in 2017 and have said they’ll get $473mill in 23. How’s that the same amount?? What they have done is covered the losses from 20&21 in the new deal. Anyways this is a rating thread, we’ve got other threads to discuss tv media deals

They are getting 946m over 2 years from 2023-24, whether this makes up for the reductions in 2020-22 wont really be known until the deal ends - although Mclachlan says it does - may never in fact be known, because not even the AFL report flat broadcast income annually.

AFL was $33.5mill (cash) down in 2021 and $47.5mill (cash) down in 2020 on their media and digital revenue. Presuming digital revenue was consistent these are what their media reductions have been so far. Not sure if they are taking more reductions in 2022?

by end of 2024 they will have recouped $114million back from the increased deal (if contra is at same amount as 2017 - deal) allegedly

Meanwhile we've recouped nothing from our Australian TV partners in the 2023- 5 year deal of the $50-60mill we lost out on in 20 and 21.

anyway back to ratings....

In 2022, the average audience on Channel Nine has eclipsed the combined average for both broadcasters in 2020. About 150,000 people have tuned in to watch NRLW matches on Channel Nine in metropolitan and regional markets.

The 53 per cent increase in viewers on Nine is reflected in a similar rise on Foxtel, which has seen most games attract between 50,000 and 60,000 viewers.

Fantastic growth and the best is yet to come. Hopefully we see more money flowing into the game so that the women can start earning what they deserve.

Enjoyed the broncos v roosters semi and looking forward to the final. I think it’s popualr because it’s far less cynical than the mens game, a bit of a throw back to the 80’s before wrestling, laying down for a penalty and block plays.

I’d have thought with all the rain around everyone in Sydney would have been at home in front of the telly. Under 300k metro seems unusual?

Hi. I am new here so here it goes. Judging from this thread the fta data doesn’t indicate with any reliability how many people are watching in metro centres. It is entirely possible the total figure when including fox and kayo would be 50 to 60% higher than the fta figure alone. Is that a reasonable assumption?

Of the 14 million viewers reported to the end of Round 4. more than 10 million were Fox Group (fox STB/kayo) viewers.

Its certainly reasonable to expect that streaming has had an impact on FTA viewing. Fox

Wookiee what does a fta/fox game break down to in terms of metro/regional/fox/kayo?

ie if a Thursday night game gets 300k metro what is the regional, fox, kayo figure As a % On avg? I’m guessing around
300k metro
150k regional
200k fox
100k kayo

That’s an astonishing stat really. FTA is rapidly losing relevance and makes you wonder what the future looks like for sporting right.

This next tv deal fta is worth around $130milll and ptv $240mill. Ie fta around 35% of deal. By the next deal in 2028 I’d expect streaming to be worth 75% of rights value.
