But that's not what happened tonight. The blues pack wasn't dominated and the blues had the momentum for the majority of the match.

Anyone. This isn't the NRL where coaches make that much of a difference, NSW have a big advantage we just need someone who doesn't f**k up dramatically.

The NSW pack dominated the game for longer than the QLD one did. There were huge portions of the game where we were absolutely rolling QLD making huge metres with them pinned in their own half out on their feet. We simply couldn't capitalise on that momentum. Scoring only 2 tries despite piling on constant pressure in the first half wasn't enough.
Is it Freddy's fault that time and again, when NSW could have taken advantage of a fatigued Qld side and got a roll on that one of our players made an error that killed a chance at momentum (J-Saf's sloppy play the ball, Critter's stupid hospital pass, Luai's failed overlap attempt)

I agree that in attack NSW showed more direction than Qld, but there's not much you can do without the football when you keep giving it away to the opposition inside your own half. Even despite this, NSW were right in the contest until Cleary's chip-kick came up snake-eyes for him with 3 minutes to go.

What was Cleary meant to do when his team was pinned in their own half for most of the last 40?

it was guys like Tupou, Talakai, Crichton that led to NSW being pinned their with their errors. What can Cleary do?

That was it. There was no go forward when NSW got the ball it was dumb errors coming off the line to put them back on defence again

TBH I always hate how people like to act like those players were terrible for NSW. Like i get that we lost a lot of series in a row but f**k that QLD was just straight up BS in terms of how good it was. They were stacked with players that will go down as all time greats. Despite that we usually came so close to winning those series and then everyone would act like the NSW team was absolute horseshit.

A lot of NSW player from that period including Pearce were underrated IMO.

true, the team would lose a series by 2 points and everyone would want wholesale changes. I feel that the halfback role was a poison chalice. Either the players in the side had no confidence in Pearce, or they just wanted to do it themselves. The problem was outside of Pearce there was no obvious choice. That said, Maloney should have retired with 20 origin caps to his name.

for the bulk of the first half NSW were making a ton of yardage around the ruck. Qld were out on their feet. The game was crying out for a Damian Cook to come on and kill the game off. At 12-6 if NSW scored the next try it would have just about been game over. Instead we gave a cheap turnover away and conceded a try right on halftime to go in 2 points up. From there we completely shat the bed.

You're right- it was those errors that killed momentum for NSW when (in their own half) the tiring Qld middle was there for the taking. But how is that Freddy's fault?

To date he's made some questionable selections but been proven right more often than not.

He lost in 2020 lining up against one of the wisest coaches in the game who has literally been running RL teams since Freddy was in junior highschool.

This series NSW (despite being sub-par) could well have won Game 1 if it wasn't for some questionable decisions (out of their hands) and again tonight had NSW players not turned the ball over and killed momentum.

What is the "edge" you think another coach is going to bring that Freddy doesn't have, of possible candidates who don't currently have an NRL gig?

18-6 wouldn't have been enough, but 24-6 might have been. Cook was utilised to take advantage of Qld's tiring pack which (based on the last few years) we've seen happen time and time again from about the 50th minute onwards and the floodgates open.

Not much that Cook (or Freddy) can do when other players are making clumsy errors killing momentum and the game-plan.

Cook eventually got thrown on when the momentum was gone, which to me is game management. I think Freddy goes in with a plan of what to do with all of his subs, but won’t deviate. Perhaps the injury to Murray tied his hands a little. Also I feel when we lost Burton to the bin throwing a centre on in the back row would have worked, but then again I don’t think you can play 4 edge forwards and 2 hookers in an origin side. 3 meter eaters through the middle isn’t enough.

Pearce pretty much sealed his fate when he shat the bed in the 2013 decider. Qld left plenty of opportunities open, this was Mitchell's golden chance to silence the doubters and put in a composed performance and he wrecked it.

Say what you like about Cleary, but he would've at least played a part- if not THE part- in getting NSW home that night and winning the shield back.

After that howler from Crichton, coach Cleary should ban him for two comp games. For a Panthers supporter, that was embarrassing.

Surely that's the end for derpy fred, mong toops, probably half a dozen others for nsw. All good though, cleary will carve up a terrible side at club level and they'll call him Joey again!
It used to happen every bloody year. The roosters would put a thousand on my tigers just before origin every year and Pearce would become the next john's. Really he was just a slightly better Brooks
