I think we offered Bird something in the region of $550K The question is would another club offer more? Given his track record I’m not sure anyone would.
I agree but Bennett may as he paid overs to get Bird to the Broncos. As others have said our offer is fair & reasonable if someone wants to pay overs fine as long as it is not us, we have been there before and dont want to go there again.

so because of that lets just break the bank and pay him what he wants so our salary cap is more f**ked for future years! great idea buddy. Also side note players go into trial games already under fatigue. why do you think they have a 1 week break between trials and first round. you don't want us to get too hyped over the win then don't get too hyped over under performers too.
This is when a Brown paper bag comes in handy.. Bruce Gordon can drop some change off at Win stadium and he wouldn’t notice it missing …

If Bird was smart he’d take a 1yr with an option or 2yr deal with us, if he can stay fit & play well he’ll get his payday on the next contract. Right now there’s just too many risk associated with him.

I am happy to pay more for players (and coaches) if they have performed for us consistently. I'd rather wait and pay more than gambling on players like Bird who go missing for large portions of the season. i.e. I am happy to keep paying Hunt what he is earning currently when his contract is renewed. If other teams want to pay Bird rep level money, let them. I don't think Griffin is racing in on this one and I commend him.

Right now, let Bird play out a large portion of the season and show us why he is worth more than he is demanding. Worst case we get a decent season out of him before he leaves.

We are generally too nice and too antsy when it comes to this sort of thing. I thought the way we have handles the T Sims scenario was perfect.

A lot of comments in this thread :)

Managing a cap is seemingly not that easy. Especially when you incentivise. That said, we seem to be taking a certain approach (coined moneybag right) and I think this is good. I like Birdy and hope he stays, but as pointed out by many, he struggles to get in the top17, so I wouldn't break the bank to keep him, especially since the injury history and the move to the back row make his reliability questionable.

Elsewhere I just want us to build on our young guys, and build a culture to be proud of. Attitude counts

I think you mean "moneyball', the Roosters use the term "moneybag"
