Toohey says Lee won’t be ready round 1….would love to see young get first crack based on the usual pre season fluff pieces from the herald

Fox Sports article on the potential options to replace Brailey

Names mentioned
- Chris Randall
- Kurt Mann
- Phoenix Crossland
- Jacob Liddle
- Sam Verills (would only become a possibility if chooks could get Smith a year early)
- Jake Granville
- Josh Hodgson
- Lachlan Lam
- Brandon Smith in a swap deal for Klemmer (long shot but Melbourne are short for middle forwards after losing Finucane + uncertainty around NAS and Tui Kamikamica)

From that list I would go

1. Smith
2. Daylight
3. Verills
4. Hodgson (looked past it this season but worth a shot for a year, Eels problem after that)
5. Crossland (all in-house options are depressingly average at best. Think Phoenix has the best upside, especially if we land Brooks or another NRL quality half)

For a club with no notable salary cap issues and more or less in a stronger position than most, we seem to always find ourselves short of options when we actually have money to spend.

i would be ok with Jake Granville for the year. Has familiarity with Clifford and Ponga and is certainly a sparky type out of #9. Even if it's a role share with Randall or Crossland.

Say we threw Pearce’s money at Smith and got him….where would that put us after round 10 or so when Brailey comes back? ….surely Smith wouldn’t have come here to play 14……I would prefer we just use Crossland and spend our cap on a half and 2nd rower

a. Saying no to one of the best players in the comp

b. Thinking a player coming from the Storm could be anything but good for our clubs "culture"

a. We aren't doing anything this year, he isn't taking us over the top.

b. Renowned as a shit trainer with a shit attitude.

c. He going to supply the white powder or buy local?

A. So we just give up on 2022? Cool story

B. He is? Can't say I've read that anywhere. Care to post a link

C. Yes because he's the only NRL player to get on the nose beers lol

a. Weird reasoning. This isn't the NBA or NFL, there's no incentive for mediocre clubs to bottom out. Smith would instantly be our best or 2nd best player and greatly improve our chances of winning week to week even if he's not going to be the reason we win a comp. It's not even like there's a high quality 9 in our junior ranks that he'd be taking opportunity from.

b. Renowned by who? Melbourne had no problem with him before he made dumb comments on a podcast.

c. If you're blacklisting every player who gets on the nose beers on Mad Monday the NRL would fold.
