Wow that`s amazing. Once in the early 2000`s when Roy was writing a lot of negative articles about the future of League following the departure of the traitors Sailor and Tuiquiri I got hold of him on a talkback radio programme and gave him a real blast. I can almost remember the bizarre exchange we had word for word.
Me: " the last thing the game needs now is you writing negative things about the games future ".
Roy: " you must be a Sharks supporter ". Stunned silence from me, didn`t know where that came from.
Me: " no I`m a Saint George supporter ". Stunned silence from Roy because I don`t think St. George supporters were meant to criticise Roy.
Me again : " where`s Warren Ryan when you need him " a reference to when Ryan thumped Roy in the grandstand at Newcastle and I hung up.
But I swear until this day his articles were not so pessimistic in the following weeks. Sometimes these blokes just need to be told.
Hahhaa. That’s excellent bro

warrren Ryan is one of my favourite coaches ever

both the wok and Brian smith would make excellent coaching directors today for clubs with bad culture like the titans or knights

ngl I’m kinda jealous you got a response from the cannon he’s one of my heroes

Years ago when Morrow and Ryan were the Grandstand league team I rang up and suggested the State Championship on GF day. They both responded well to the idea. A few seasons later it was introduced. Not taking credit for it but not NOT taking credit for it either merkins.
My memory is shocking but I think I remember the thread on this forum about a hypothetical NSW and QLD state championship game on grand final day. It was years before the NRL brought it in.

Most likely what will happen is for the NRL to have a full time FTA Saturday game. You could end up with 4 FTA games a week. But the code will expand to 9 games a week. Perhaps a possible return of Monday night football.

The thing that annoys me is that the communications minister was concerned about the AFL reducing it's FTA exposure on Saturdays.

But what about another sport like Football where it is fragmented across 4 different platforms- Kayo, Stan, Optus and Paramount. This certainly doesn't help the local competition, the A League.
For years we've allowed Foxtel to hold exclusivity over coverage on Saturday nights for all but 5 rounds. They haven't compensated us for this privilege. It's time for the ARLC to tell Foxtel that starting in 2028 there will be a Saturday night game on FTA every round, and it'll be given to the ABC for free on the provision that Offsiders becomes a dedicated rugby league program and a weekly preview show each Wednesday night. That would really piss Foxtel off as the ABC can cover it without screening any advertising during game play and no slots for betting ads during half time, making it family friendly and giving AwFuL a good kick in the nuts. Add a Perth team and all of a sudden we'll have an opportunity to grow our game into new markets and receive some fair coverage from the ABC.

nah
foxtel will insist on an FTA free Saturday like its been for 25 years now & like they are now insisting with racistball ( it'll be phased in over the 7 year deal & by 2031 there will be no fumbling & bumbling at all on FTA on Saturdays )

the 9th NRL game will be a permanent Sunday 6.15pm game

we will still get fta saturdays in the NRL for the final 5 rounds

**.. this is ofc if foxtel trump up in 2028... the 9th game & what they diddled us for in this next 5 year deal & natural inflationary effects & genuine bidding tension should have them paying at least 450 mill pa
otherwise .... paramount /10 get , or 9/stan can have the rights to everything for 600 mill

What's your problem with a hypothetical deal that gives our game more publicity?

We've been ripped off for 20 years by News Ltd just so they can have Saturdays to themselves. I'd rather see us put the 7.30pm game on ABC for free or a small fee so we can reach out to a new audelience. There are still people in this country who only watch the ABC. A weekly game and talk shows about the NRL on the ABC will give us a huge advantage over every other sports league in the country.

Expanding on my previous post about the ABC.

The ABC is committed to promoting women's sport. If we bring the NRLW season inline with the NRL we could sell all NRLW games to the ABC. A $25m per annum deal for the NRLW would be huge. Throw in another $500k per week for a Saturday night NRL game on the ABC and we'll collect another $12.5M for the FTA rights. $37.5m for the NRLW and a Saturday night NRL game on the ABC would give Ch9 and Foxtel the kick up the arse they deserve.

That's you with all of your stupid predictions about the NRL and AwFuL broadcast deals over the last few years. None of which came true, yet here you are prancing around like Nostradamus. Just go away and leave the discussion to us adults. Your posts are boring and infantile.
Totally wrong

his posts are very inciteful

you could just put him on ignore if you don’t think his contributions are worthwhile

I think the guy is switched on

Although I like his enthusiasm for our game his predictions about TV deals have been fairly wrong
Well even your mate wookie got his predictions for the afl deal wrong if you want to believe wha is claimed

I’ve been reading this thread for years and baselinepanther is one of the best contributors here

frankly the afl love feet shown by many on here is sickening

nobody is forcing people to watch nrl go and watch afl lmao

So you choose a network that has supported afl for 20? Years over the one that actually gives the game money ?

wow that’s awesome
I find I get better RL coverage on 7 and I'm heartily sick of Nein's parasitic relationship with RL.
