I find I get better RL coverage on 7 and I'm heartily sick of Nein's parasitic relationship with RL.
Yeh when they did the World Cup years ago it was better

but they aren’t going to be covering rugby league any time soon as they are dedicated to afl

Expanding on my previous post about the ABC.

The ABC is committed to promoting women's sport. If we bring the NRLW season inline with the NRL we could sell all NRLW games to the ABC. A $25m per annum deal for the NRLW would be huge. Throw in another $500k per week for a Saturday night NRL game on the ABC and we'll collect another $12.5M for the FTA rights. $37.5m for the NRLW and a Saturday night NRL game on the ABC would give Ch9 and Foxtel the kick up the arse they deserve.

This would result in a massive reduction in any commercial FTA or Pay TV deal, which would not be offset by the ABC.

Ch9 and Foxtel are already paying us peanuts and treat us like a red-headed stepchild.

Ch9 bullied Greenberg out of the CEO position so they could get V'landys to give them a massive discount in 2020, to the tune of about $100m, which they used to acquire the broadcast rights to SANZAR. They gave us just $115m per annum under our new deal, but bid $500m per annum for fumbleball. They had the chance to screen four games each round exclusively on their network under Dave Smith, but chose to sell the rights of the fourth game back to Foxtel and gave up exclusivity of the other three, then blamed the NRL in 2020 for viewers choosing Foxtel over their shit coverage.

We need to get as far away from Ch9 as we can unless they pay us what they were willing to pay AwFuL. They need us more than we need them as they're on a dying platform and need ratings juggernaut like NRL to cross promote their shit programs.

At this stage we would be better off taking a hit by producing our own content and selling it to the public via the NRL App and on-selling a few games per round to the highest bidder. Whatever short-term loss we suffer will be more than recouped in the future. But that will require us to have some faith in our product and start planning for the future. Our administration and clubs sit on there arse qnd live off revenue from broadcast rights, pokies and betting companies. Before that it was smoking companies propping us up.

Totally wrong

his posts are very inciteful

you could just put him on ignore if you don’t think his contributions are worthwhile

I think the guy is switched on
His posts are written at the level of a kid who failed grade 1. He doesn't know how to structure a sentence. Things like capitalisation of letters are beyond his intellect. The bloke lives in a fantasy world and believes we're getting more money than our main competitor, despite all the evidence that's been provided to him ad nauseum. He's best suited to playing with Tonka Trucks and imagining he's Neil Armstrong collecting moon cheese to make a ham and cheese toastie.

All of this may be true, but your original point of giving a game away to the ABC for free (or peanuts) isn't financially viable or realistic. The solution to getting less money then your main rival, isn't to take even less money again surely?

I think what you are describing (which many have) is something that is very likely in 10 or so years, but also the reason why broadcasters will pay overs for content for a while to come. Worldwide, there isn't really yet any major code that peddles its product exclusively via its content platform in a domestic sense (plenty do it for overseas markets), yet.

Ok Aristotle

can’t wait for the next rant about cutting 5 Sydney clubs for a team in Singapore

that’s going to get us a massive tv deal

If we gave just one game per round to the ABC to air on Saturday night then it wouldn't devalue the rest of the product by much, if at all. If we go to 18 teams then we can give the 9th game to the ABC for production cost and still be able to sell the other eight games at market value.

Ch9 don't really have a leg to stand on regarding this as they gave up the right to screen a Saturday game when Smith was CEO. They can still air Thursday, Friday and Sunday games without a Saturday night game on the ABC having any impact on them.

Foxtel have shown their hand and we've done them enough favours. They've paid AwFuL handsomely for some exclusive Saturdays, yet haven't give us any compensation for the decades they've had this day all to themselves. If Foxtel and Ch9 throw another tantrum, which is a given as they're accustomed to ripping us off, then we've got Ch10/Paramount+ desperate for content to prop up their struggling platforms. That's who we really need to cosy up to over the next few years.

Very, very interesting.

Paramount’s executive vice-president and chief content officer Beverley McGarvey has signalled the streaming and television network will continue its bullish attempts to secure major broadcast rights despite missing out on an AFL deal to boost its local sports offering.

“All the AFL did was indicate to the market that we do have the investment capability. We are serious about making tactical decisions across a range of content and that really hasn’t changed.”

Paramount’s final offer to the AFL is indicative of how much it might be willing to pay for sport it considers tier one.

Not one mention of League in the article ( this is Zoe Samos after all ) but the last quote I posted says it all, " indicative of how much it might be willing to pay for sport it considers tier one." You don`t get any more tier one then Rugby League, hope they`re watching the World Cup.

Cricket makes sense because it can be sold overseas

you can watch international Soccer on there

I guess it depends, How the rights are structured and how much Cricket Australia make from selling the rights directly

They hold the international rights for these competitions in SOME countries, but they definitely DONT have the domestic rights within those countires.

Paramount Plus doesn't have the rights to the Champions League in Australia for example.
