They threaten this bs everytime a deal comes round. It’s why the nrl has for years been trying to get them on to perpetual license agreements but has continually failed. The clubs know it’s the only threat they’ve got.
Maybe nrl should put the wind up them and say its considering reviewing all licenses with some new kpis attached to them!

An unnamed source.

Tells me Buzz is just stirring up trouble.

Super League had the lure of money, No one can cover the $600m + it would take to get a rebel comp going

I get the club's frustration, Many don't have a $1m at short notice to pay the players. So need a resolution, The players and NRL hold up is the one they should be trying to stop

It could also be the clubs are doing some of this as all licences to compete in the NRL expire at the end of 2023.

That is linked to it, Can't renew licences without the CBA.
Though come Dec 1 they need to pay players, Any spare cash the clubs had would of gone to buying Merchadise to flog off over Christmas. So I doubt some if not all have $1m just sitting there to pay players come December too.

The whole thing is a mess and needs a quick resolution

Nah

it’s not like any of the bludgers are going to be kicked out

and vlandys has made sure that the way they are funded even a donkey could run these clubs … which to be honest most are

international rugby league is the next growth platform for the game
Last decade (since 2013):
TON v SAM Rugby Union - SAM won 4/8 (50%) with 1 draw (13%)
TON v SAM Rugby League - TON won 3/5 (60%)
Keep in mind that in Rugby Union last year Eng v Ton was 69-3 and NZ v Ton was 102-0

Conversely for Australia, New Zealand and England match ups:

AUS v NZ Rugby Union - AUS won 4/29 (14%) with 2 draws (7%)
AUS v NZ Rugby League - NZ won 4/13 (31%)

AUS v ENG Rugby Union - ENG won 12/14 (86%)
AUS v ENG Rugby League - AUS won 5/5 (100%)

NZ v ENG Rugby Union - NZ won 6/7 (86%)
NZ v ENG Rugby League - NZ won 5/10 (50%)

There's really not much difference in competitiveness between AUS, NZ, ENG, TON and SAM in either rugby code. The more England and New Zealand beat the Kangaroos the greater the value of international footy becomes. Yes there is more to do on the international front but a big part of the battle is perception.

Tonga played Samoa in New Zealand during the 2017 RLWC in front of a crowd of 18k

Sorry, I'll refrain from posting factual information from now on
So a stadium that is over 70 percent full for a game we’ve put little effort in promoting is supposed to be evidence of a bad crowd

thanks champ

have you seen the crowds Tonga get for games played in Auckland which is where I said they should be played lol

" Channel 10’s consistently dire television ratings remain a headache for the US-owned broadcaster "

" Ten also recently missed out on the AFL broadcasting rights that were up for grabs.

" While Ten and its streaming partner Paramount+ are believed to have tabled a lucrative 10-year deal, the AFL chose to stick with incumbent broadcasters Foxtel and Seven.

" Ten’s sporting woes don’t end there – the network last year signed a $200m five-year deal with A-League to air matches on Ten and its streaming service 10 Play and also Paramount Plus.

" Despite this, Ten moved A-League from its main channel to one of its lesser-known channels, 10 Bold this season. "

" Nine Entertainment has reportedly stumped up a record sum to extend its broadcast deal with Tennis Australia, with the network set to ink a $500m agreement with the sport’s governing body that will secure the rights to air the Australian Open until 2030. "

Somethings got to give.

40 million for a sport with basically no ratings

league would be a bargain then for what 9 and fox pay

Moved this to the correct thread.

@ lamback Surely Nine can`t keep low-balling League while Ten sits there with the cupboard empty.

Ideally they buy the cricket that ch7 sells so they have experience with running regular sport, Not so much for those who can afford Pay TV. FTA exposure is almost as important as the cash increase, Especially if a new market is team 18.

A League and Super Rugby changed and struggled.
Cricket too hasn't reached great heights at 7
The only outlier with that is the Tennis but Australian's doing well likely skewes those figures

The reasoning AFL used for not going to them is valid, Hopefully the risk drops across the next few years
