they can if we dont give ten a chance to bid!Moved this to the correct thread.
@ lamback Surely Nine can`t keep low-balling League while Ten sits there with the cupboard empty.

V'landys brought this on himself by not being transparent with the details of the broadcast rights deal. It's obvious he under sold the rights, which casts serious doubt over his allegiance and competence. @Perth Red was right about him.Even the clubs don`t know the details. Ming boggling.
Given that broadcasting revenue historically represents about two-thirds of the income to the central administration and, with a stalemate reached in negotiations, both stakeholders are demanding more detail around the seven-year pay-TV deal ARLC chair Peter V’landys negotiated with Foxtel during the Covid pandemic.
It’s what could be called an “undisclosed asset” in the negotiations. V’landys has always maintained the secrecy around the Foxtel deal becomes irrelevant when the clubs and players will receive record deals and add to it when the NRL goes back to broadcasters for the 2028 contract.
Seems like V`landy`s & co. are getting plenty of grief over the fumbleball broadcast deal as well.
Who’ll get what in rugby league’s divorce court hearings
CBA negotiations between the NRL, clubs and RLPA have hit an impasse, with clubs forced to guess at the size of the salary cap for 2023. How will the pie end up being split?www.smh.com.au
Now is a golden opportunity for V'landys and Abdo to publicly declare an interest in expanding into Adelaide, New Zealand and Perth. Hold a press conference to state the only way a club will get $5m or more on top of the salary cap is by relocating to Adelaide or New Zealand or Perth. I'd go one step further and say the Tigers will get $5m on top of the cap if their licence is given to the Easts Tigers so they can be based out of Coorparoo as the Brisbane Tigers! The whole thing just reeks of a bunch of small time rent seekers whose best chance of growing their revenue is getting another handout.
Some NRL clubs must be shit-scared of one-city teams eventually usurping them and them going the way of the dodo, or maybe the critically endangered North Sydney Bear.
So why did your dickhead hero V'landys gift it to Ch9 and Foxtel?40 million for a sport with basically no ratings
league would be a bargain then for what 9 and fox pay
Spoke to a bloke today who`s right into the horses and asked him what he made of V`landy`s tenure of N.S.W. Racing. He tells me for the first time in a long time people in N.S.W. are looking to invest in horses because there`s money in it.He’s so screwed it!
So out of $370mill cash he has managed to bring in the new tv deal he’s giving $300mill to clubs! quite staggering.
Because of him nsw spring carnival will surpass Victoria’sSpoke to a bloke today who`s right into the horses and asked him what he made of V`landy`s tenure of N.S.W. Racing. He tells me for the first time in a long time people in N.S.W. are looking to invest in horses because there`s money in it.
V`landy`s oft repeated mantra for Racing has been `reward the participants`. Are we seeing the same thing in League. You give the clubs more money, they are bigger, theoretically more successful and will attract more followers and sponsors ? You gotta spend a buck to make a buck. Maybe there`s method in his madness, it`s certainly working for the N.S.W. Racing industry.
There’s something in that for sure. Until you look back a few years as a measure where the grant went from $7mill to $13mill. it didn’t seem to make a blind bit of difference across those metrics you mention. Maybe going to $16mill will be different? Or maybe they’ll keep blowing it paying coaches out and lord knows what other sht they spend their $30million on.Spoke to a bloke today who`s right into the horses and asked him what he made of V`landy`s tenure of N.S.W. The bloke is gutting junior RL to fund decrepit Sydney NRL clubs. In 15 to 20 years from now the quality of NRL players will be much lower as fewer kids will be playing the game over that period. Registration costs will grow while our main competitor gives theirs away at a low price. Families struggling to make ends meet just won't be able to afford the costs associated with playing football. Some will be lost to fumbleball. Junior clubs will wither and die. All thanks to V'landys putting decrepit Sydney NRL clubs ahead of the game.Spoke to a bloke today who`s right into the horses and asked him what he made of V`landy`s tenure of N.S.W. Racing. But he's not wrong, is he?Lol
Always looks for a negative …
how surprising.
Its easier for him to attack posters than to actually think about a counter argument to the points being made. That would take a modicum of intelligence. But he's not wrong, is he?
Grant gave them 130% of the salary cap when they called for his head. Now they're demanding $5m on top of the salary cap and threatening to form Super League 2 if they don't get their way. The money needed to meet their demands will come from gutting funds to junior football because there sure isn't enough coming from Ch9 and Foxtel netween 2023 and 2028 to pay the bills.
Are you incapable of understanding this or do you just not want to accept reality?
Read that Andrew Johns has signed a five year extension with Channel 9, would that be through to the end of 2027. I can`t see him having any use to Nine apart from League ( christ he`s not much use even there).
Nine not sure whether they`ll keep or want the rights after that?
The game will contract if this continues. When the ARU did something similar they raised registration costs for juniors. Our game cannot afford to heap more expenses on juniors when much of our fanbase lives in lower socio-economic regions. People will have less money to go see NRL games. Its easier for him to attack posters than to actually think about a counter argument to the points being made. That would take a modicum of intelligence.
Revenue is not increasing in line with club grant and player demands, ergo it will come from somewhere. This years annual report will make for interesting reading about how much of the missing $25million in grassroots funding in 2021 has been put back in.
It Beattie/Greenbergs final year in charge they increased grass roots funding by $15.3million and still achieved a $29million surplus. For Vlandys to achieve his surplus he had to slash grassroots funding by $25million on that 2019 expenditure. Most of which has gone straight into the players pockets. Ask yourself which would you have preferred, an extra $25mill to grassroots, or an extra $25mill going in players bank accounts?
This TV deal finishes in 2027 not 2028 that's in the thread title and note it's only media, not telecommunications companies ie Telstra. The post i made the NRL deal before now makes sense and since it is finished 2027, when would be the right time to start negotiations. Maybe make a start at 3/4 of this years season, so before finals. The AFL went very early, but if we give it a try this year we can call it off if we don't get what we want and start next year. For all things next tv deal related
Proves game time is irrelevantSo the over $400 million dollars cash annually ( and goes up each year) from TV and STV ( media only) that Abdo said was correct.
With AFL getting $420, close enough.
So not a bad result, very close to the AFL for 2023 and 2024. We have got an upside with internationals and while we at it a decent Nines International competition with teams form around the world could be an extra money spinner, also Vegas could pay off handsomely....It's on the up and up.
Another way to say it their is only 4.7% difference between AFL and NRL in the media only ,TV ,STV for the years 2023 and this year 2024. YOU would not guess that form the commentators dragging the game down , I'm looking at you........Mr....So the over $400 million dollars cash annually ( and goes up each year) from TV and STV ( media only) that Abdo said was correct.
