Yep. We know the ratings can't account for the difference in deals. So its the advertising revenue and subscriber pull that must. Or we just got f**ked up the ass with the worst deal in two decades, the profits of which are funding or competitors.

Im f**king pissed at myself for buying into the 'sports deals wont go up' mantra and a bit of the cult of personality around V'landys.
We under value the markets we have strongest penetration in. No sport other then cricket has reach into the massive lucrative market that is western Sydney.

Lol so we are to believe that at a press conference with the ch7 owner Kerry stokes and foxtel ceo Patrick Delaney, that they were happy to sit there as the AFL wielded out made up figures that their companies were paying for the new rights? 🤣. Wow, just... wow.
so you believe foxtel are paying more then the entire NRL deal......... all by themselves ?

What gets me is the AFL offer them Super Saturday games and Fox pay a motza for it .

Because they told them they might lose it if they didn’t. Simple

Have we ever really threatened them with that possibility (well other than that one time). You heard very little about the League negotiations other than it was going to stay at Nine/Pay. Who is to say that we ever really put it out to tender and if that is the case why would the holding partners pay through the nose if they are in no danger of losing it

True.

We don’t put it out to tender and we don’t have a national competition. People on here can complain (and rightly so) but if management are willing to lie down so much what do you expect?

I was always wary of it myself. News Ltd are very transparent regarding our game and the fact that they were so gushing of him made me doubtful of his intentions.

That was the give away from the start. I posted an article ages ago on how Murdoch got the NFL and one of his key strategies was dealing with a leader who lacked big picture vision eg. like dopey V'landys.

I believe shareholders in 7 and foxtel would riot if they knew their CEO and chairman allowed a sporting body to over inflate and give incorrect figures right in front of their faces on national television. It simply, would not happen and would be a terrible look for both 7 and foxtel if it were the case.

Will we? Ten/Paramount might throw money but again this goes down to two things:

1. We don’t have a national presence. Posters on here can tell you different but it is a big thing
2. Nine have undersold us for how long. They talk the game down at every opportunity they get. That has a run on effect. If Nine aren’t willing to throw heaps of money at us than Ten won’t have to. I really think it is time (it could/should have been) to create our own content. If media aren’t willing to value our game properly then you need to create competitive tension in some other way.
That's what Smith and Grant were doing that's why they were hounded out of town and had their character attacked.

Well they just wouldn’t actually legally be allowed to do it

Exactly, that's my point we have all these valuable assets yet we have no idea the worth of them and just bow down to our masters who tell us we should be grateful.

they've been misrepresenting & lying about participation figures for 30 years to gain govt grants
wouldn't think that'd be legal either
but here we are ...

anyone thinking foxtel are paying the aflol more per year then the entire NRL deal per year , & not questioning the legitmacy of that figure
has some issues

I guess it will be entirely dependent on ten/paramount getting involved. Nine will pay up if they have to. Who knows what the market looks like 5yrs time as well. Could be a whole new player/s on the scene. Lets look for silver linings lol
Realistically Nine really are only interested in Origin.

yea
more then the entire NRL deal according to loops in here 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Do you ever consider that Foxtel were actually seriously threatened with loss of fumbleball - have we ever done the same so that creates market tension and that creates higher value. Not just lip service but actually you’re going lose it and this is what you have to pay to keep it.

Secondly, and more importantly, did you ever also consider that maybe just maybe our game is severely undervalued and that V’Landys massively f***** up. I know that doesn’t correlate with the messiah/cult of personality thing that V’Landys apologists seem to have conjured in their heads but the difference is humongous and nowhere near reflective of the position of both of our games (or what should be) in the marketplace.

If their deal was 5-10% more then you could say fair enough (begrudgingly), based on their national profile and longer games, but it’s more than 40% (actually nearly 50% more if it is over $600 million. That’s therefore not just reflective of how well fumbleball have done (that’s depressing) but also much more about how badly V’Landys has done in this. This is even with adding a side and giving broadcasters what they want.

This is surely beyond the pale of anybody who is a V’Landys supporter - how anybody can defend him now is beyond me. F*** me if Gallop or Greenberg presided over this they wouldn’t get another job.

Quick Maths $400m across 30 weeks
$13m a week
$1.4m a game

So there has to other stuff included that isn't TV
there was no one else present at the press conference
no mention of any new partners etc

the figure is beyond realistic
as Ive said
on top of what they're paying for the rest of their content , & not locking out much extra fta aflol coverage outside of vicderpia & so not assured of an enormous uptake of new subscriptions
they'll be broke before the deal is done !!
2.8 Billion all by themselves for a sport that is only popular in half the country & has at times delivered STV ratings on par with the A League in 2022
yea
thats perfectly believable 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
