So who actually believes :

1. Seven 150 mill pa

2. Telstra 50 million pa ? What for who knows exactly ? A gift ?

3. Foxtel : 440 million ? An increase from 230 million currently ?

I’m giggling as a type this
I believe it. Murdoch came out to Australia to tell the media he and his mates prefer AwFuL and they reckon it's the premier game. They've had every major city covered since 1991. Second teams were added to Perth, Adelaide, SEQ and Sydney in 1995, 1997, 2011 and 2012. They're so far ahead of us in development it's not hard to see why Foxtel chuck more money at them.

They look at AwFuL and see a game that has a proven record of growing in its heartland and enemy Territory. They look at our game and see a game that has nine small clubs in Sydney, one massive club in Brisbane and no one else until 2023, one club in Melbourne and zilch in Adelaide and Perth. If we cannot get a second team into the world's second largest rugby league city until 2023, despite being the biggest game in town for over a hundred years, then it's fair to assume we're not very good at growing our brand. Some of Sydney's clubs have been around for over 100 years but are no bigger than the Gold Coast Suns. That's how poorly our game has been run.

What about Seven West which said $3.85b ... $550m pa?

maybe that’s cash for the tv companies ie without telstra and contra? Sound about right $50mill telstra and $43mill contra. Also fits with afl comment about north of $4bill

$550millx 7 years is $3.85bill plus over $150mill cash from telstra

So
He said north of 4. thats billion. He didnt say north of 400.

The AFL sold media rights. Not tv rights. You know, because we live in a modern era. Its not the AFLs fault Telstra dont pay for yours.

its almost like you make shit up as you go along.
Sorry I was under the impression this was threat was the """""Next Tv deal discussion""""", threat I must have missed the part of telephone company discussion. It's like you can't read that the forum discussion is about when its at the top of the page . Anyway just make up 'media' wave your hands and your correct. However where in the comparison of broadcast Tv deals So keep up with the discussion will you!

Seven secures AFL rights until 2031

Seven West Media (ASX: SWM) today confirmed that it has secured the AFL media rights from 2025 to 2031.

SWM’s 7plus will be the new home of the AFL for Seven’s dedicated fans and advertisers, with a comprehensive package of digital rights secured with this renewal. The 7plus AFL hub will include live and replay matches as well as catch-up rights and highlights packages on video on demand, available live and free on any device, at any time. Seven will also continue to broadcast AFL games on Channel 7 and 7mate.

SWM Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with the AFL until 2031. Securing a comprehensive package of digital rights to the AFL for 7plus was our absolute focus. For the first time, fans will be able to access the best AFL games and video content, live and free, in a way that suits them.

“More importantly, this new combination of broadcast and digital means SWM will be ideally positioned to drive and capture a significant share of the growing total television market.

“Together, the AFL and Seven have made the code the #1 winter sport across the country and we look forward to working with the AFL Commission to extend the sport’s leadership.”

Seven will pay a 14% increase on the 2024 rights in 2025; with indexation over the term this represents a 3.6% compound annual growth rate in rights fees across the period.

This release has been authorised to be given to ASX by the Board of Seven West Media Limited.

No no Ive read it. I read the parts where you denied the 473m AFLs deal were even possible, then you denied Telstra were involved, then denied Telstra would continue to be involved, and now you want Telstra excluded.

(My favorite part is still where you all collectively jumped at a post that wrote the AFLs rights down without realising it was in US dollars.)

Yes Ive been here in the "Media Watch" forum - is Kayo really TV by the way - and your head must really hurt this afternoon.

Mate even if you wanted to take out all of the Telstra and digital rights and all the buttressing, the TV part is still massively in their favour.

The whole argument about all of this Telstra and add ons is pedantry. They smashed our deal any which way you want to look at it and frankly everybody should be criticising V’Landys in the wake of this.

mate your just deflecting, even if you take telstra out and don’t include contra the gap is still $180million cash a year! A fcking YEAR.
The biggest ever gap in tv deals was only $83mill a year inc contra and that was when the game was being run by one of the companies buying the rights and we had gallop as ceo!
This is a monumental disaster for the game and it sits squarely at one man’s feet.

Lol the denial in here is quite amazing. So much egg on so many faces. It’s like the 2 year $946mill announcement all over again lol.

afl played a blinder getting ten interested and the “leak“ of $600mill for ten years has clearly forced seven and fox way over what they wanted to pay. Very smart by Gil.
Nine offering $500 mill is just the biggest kick in the balls to nrl ever after they refused to pay anything extra despite another Brisbane club They’d beeen crying out for for years. fox you can expect, they prefer afl, they said it themselves. chance of losing it would have been the end for Foxsports so they’ve gone hard to keep it.

what the details are in terms of split and contra we probably won’t know for sure for quite a while yet.
AFL got a great deal but for a Rugby League supporter you seem overly happy about it?

Im actually gutted what I’ve been predicting for a long time has come true, both on their mega deal and in Vlandys being complicit in our low ball deal. It will hold the game back for years. they’ve done an amazing job and I’m green with envy. Could you imagine what the game could be with an extra $180mill a year for seven years?

PR is totally conflicted, first and foremost it is important to acknowledge that he does love League, but being a Pom he hates Aussie League because of a) how sick we make English League look and b) what a total f-up of the game they have made up there.
I think this explains the seemingly perverse delight he gets in seeing Aussie League being shown up by fumbleball.

Our game could certainly do with extra funds to expand the game into Perth and Adelaide. Having a quick look at Kayo estimates and the NRL seem to consistently beat the AFL so I don't understand how we constantly get lowballed on TV rights. I agree V'Landys must somehow be complicit with Fox for us to get such a poor outcome.

One thing that must happen is that an investigation needs to occur into who negotiated what with Fox and Nine and V'Landys and possibly other directors need to be given a show cause as to why they keep their jobs.

The next CEO needs to be like Dave Smith and have zero ties to either Fox or Nein.

So they get what $100 odd million more than NRL in cash and you’re trumpeting this as a bad deal.

If you want to add Telstra and contra on to our deal, I’m sure we are getting close.

Did NRL ever say what Telstra is paying?

Again though AFL goes until 2031.
NRL 2027

NRL will almost be done their next TV deal when that ends, NRL have plenty more flexibility so who knows where NRL ends up in the last 4 years of this AFL deal

I wouldn’t even worry about the show cause. Anybody involved in those negotiations need to be shown the door for either gross incompetence or complicity with Fox/Nine
