Lets not forget in all the doom and gloom that $400 million a year is not to be sneezed at and the NRL just have to play the long game and get a new team up and running in Perth before the next deal is done. Hopefully they can also put some money and effort into junior football and co fund just like AFL have done some junior ground upgrades with the various state governments in not just NSW but QLD, Victoria and also WA.

We are starting way behind AFL but there's no reason the NRL can't negotiate a much improved deal next time round and let's remember Rugby League is a game virtually made for TV and in my opinion vastly superior to AFL. The game also has another few aces up it's sleeve in Origin and especially international football.

International test matches and a World Cup are something that AFL can only ever dream about and we need to capitalise on this strength including it's inclusion in some form at the Brisbane Olympics even if just as a demonstration sport.

Gil didnt do anything of the sort. Its News that didnt, and your deliberately citing a News Limited article over the official statement.

Why would Gil Mention Telstra, cite 4.5 billion - both in the statement and at the presser, and clearly say the cash was north of 4 billion at the presser itself - to have you cite an article from News instead of the official statements.

From what you posted you believe cash and contra from Fox and Seven to be total of 3.85 billion...leaving telstra to have paid 515 million in cash and contra for its share....if you believe it.

What are the updates of Marvel by Telstra?

The last deal had $50 a year x 7 = $350m

Leaves $145m or $21m a year for the wifi upgrade or whatever it is

Like I said when the deal was announced more details are needed

The Statement on AFL.com I posted mentioning Telstra and Marvel updates into the website

Your absolutely right here.

hell I dont even judge him on the tv deal. It was a good deal when signed, its just not as good as other deals.

I dont like a few things hes done - but the good overall for the NRL has outweighed any concerns Id have if I was a die hard NRL fan.
He isn't diplomatic and insulted the Perth RL community when he said "no money will be wasted on expanding into rusted on AFL states" after the WA Gov spent a fortune on Perth Oval and the Perth community attended NRL games in strong numbers. Kevin Sheedy got people in western Sydney offside by saying Hindmarsh is a stadium in Adelaide and GWS has struggled ever since.

Just look at the thread and see all the fumblers who are frothing at the mouth

as I said before these figures are simply not believeable

i didn’t think you would be so gullible tbh

It’s just the laws of probability. Do I believe in everything that was sprouted? Of course not. Same as I don’t believe in everything that was in the NRL deal.

However, based on the laws of probability it is much more probable to believe that they got a much better deal than what we did.

That is unless you believe that they called a press conference, brought along Channel Seven and Foxtel and blatantly lied in front of everyone. That is not likely to have happened.

people are wetting their pants on the headline figure gill is using

I’ve asked time and again and none of the fumblers will answer me or explain

foxtel didn’t pay double for the afl

They are not everything sure but they should mean a lot more than they do. Even you as a fumbleball fan would admit that the difference is a lot larger than it should be.
Until recently kayo numbers weren’t provided or were hidden in the Telstra digital app

now the figures are coming out the picture is emerging

fox clearly know how well the nrl is doing and so does stan as well

Nz2 to be announced in next few years which will see value for 3 networks

they could also look at bringing back Monday night football which would really add value to fox
If V'landys has any brains he will liaiase with the Canterbury Bulldogs about taking three or four games to Christchurch to play in the dreaded Fri 6pm time slot. It'll test the waters for the appetite for NZ 2, take pressure off Australian clubs by reducing the amount of games they host in this timeslot and provide Christchurch with rugby league content. If done fight then coaching clinics can be run in the week leading up to identify talent and get kids playing the game in Christchurch. Bulldogs might convert a few locals into fans who buy a club membership.

They have before though that’s the thing. News Ltd and Channel 9 couldn’t give a f*** about Rugby League and they have shown this on multiple occasions.

It is time for us to have some guts, create tension and force them to pay what it’s worth as they aren’t going to do it out of the kindness of their heart or because they spent a lot of money on fumbleball. Better yet, if they do lose it (News Ltd in particular) then they will know what it is worth.

Average AFL distribution: 14.94m
Average AFL club member/gate income :15.6m
Average AFL club sponsorship income: 10.77m
So nrl clubs are getting a higher distribution from the arlc with almost half the number of players ?

wow

where are all those people bashing vlandys now

Just relax a bit

stan are going to provide foxtel with competition

yes it sucks we may have to be owned totally by nine but foxtel are where we get ripped off the most

those nrl pay tv ratings are gold

Sure but they aren’t paying what it is worth and they never have. The only way you are going to change their attitude or their perception is to actually leave them and move it to Paramount or some other streaming service.

You have to look at it from their perspective: why would they need to pay too much to keep it if there isn’t any threat of them losing it

Will they though? Nine are tighter than Foxtel. We have to hope for another streaming service

The last figure rams home the difference between the two codes. Broncos and Cowboys got $12.7m and $8.9m last year, whereas Sharks got just $4m, based on the figures from their annual reports. I don't know how much the other Sydney clubs get as I couldn't find their annual reports, but I doubt it's much more than the Sharks and probably below the Broncos and Cowboys.

Maybe because AFL clubs don't need it as they are better run with better sponsorship, membership and attendance? Also AFL has a more equitable to provide more funding to struggling clubs. Why we give Brisbane as much as we give the Titans beggars belief.

The only thing NRL may do better at is merchandise sales.
