Unless Foxtel actually agreed to a compensation deal (which reports suggests they don’t) then very little. An extra side is the obvious thing but why would you do it in the middle of a current deal
I guess if nrl said to fox you get a ninth game in 2026 and we’ll extend to 2031 with nine games then they could extend and have a new deal for 26-31. Again though without going to open market we’d be selling ourselves well short, but this Vlandys so this is what I expect might happen. You’d want to be getting at least $50-75mill extra from fox for that sort of deal.

The clubs do the most of development though, Assuming they get their wish of $5m over the cap. That covers most junior development programs
I thought LC’s paid for it In most cases?

no one’s answered yet where all this money going to clubs is coming from? $80mill extra plus dolphins $18mill. Where exactly is the game getting an extra $100mill a year from to gift clubs and players?

Are you setting that payment in stone? Also, what about grassroots or regions not controlled by clubs?

Nothing is set until the NRL signs off on it, most areas are covered by the clubs. Those who aren't the state and NRL funded development officers would still be in place

sounds like nrl just finding away to pull nswrl funding after they failed miserably in court.

people need to really understand the difference between grassroots participation and elite professional pathway development. The two are not the same. The clubs don’t fund grassroots, they fund elite pathway programs.

If the World Cup is a success this year with a few boil-overs and perhaps a Pacific Island World Champion, a neat little 4 nations package might be something else we can put on the negotiating table. Another $20m-$25m + perhaps.

The difference between afl and rugby league is rugby league isn’t arrogant enough to think it can take over from fumble ball in their states

afl is wasting all its financial strength trying to do that on our turf

when you have a competitor which has more cash and better media than you, the best way to drain them of money is for them to fight on your turf

a Perth nrl team will do nothing against afl. But the dolphins sure will
If or when the AFL bring in a 19th team perth will be a chance of being the 20th. If this is the case will be very hard for league to bring a team from perth in.

League and fumbleball are such completely different products that I think there will always be a market for League where ever fumbleball is played. You can have your flouncing around at the fumbleball but League is where things get serious. The big crowds that League draws in those states confirms this. Give them a team they will keep an interest.

Perth won’t get another afl team for at least 10-15 years.
if tassie come in I can see act govt paying for a canberra team next.

Sure, there'll be an interest. There always has been an interest.

The big crowds for Origin arent replicated anywhere else in League during the season, dont make the mistake of thinking theatre crowds are the same as regular season support. The Wallabies and Socceroos say hi.

And lol at League is where things get serious. You cant seriously think that in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne that the AFL isnt a serious business.

But then ACT will have two teams. It’s been pointed out several times GWS is a Sydney AND ACT team

But they’re always going to be wanting a hand out for something.
warriors are getting pillaged of NZ talent while the roosters just wave brown paper bags around. It’s hardly fair

What's the alternative though?

All 17 clubs get the same funding which is fairer than some models, Warriors running a NSW Cup team and an SG Ball side. Hopefully helps with that going forward

It it fairer? Equality isn't always better than equity.

I don't really feel or hear of any desire over here for a 3rd team.

There is a good mix of Eagles, Freo and other club followings across the population.
There isnt. I cant see it for decades if ever. There really isnt any need for one either, we have two giant clubs already in AFL and Freo still has capacity to grow its active fanbase even though Eagles remain at capacity and cant take any more active fans. Unlike NRL in Brisbane the city is covered with no need for a third team.

Maybe when we hit 4million they may look at it lol.

.....

Sharks, Dragons and Sea Eagles haven't moved into the SFS. Rabbitohs want to move into the SFS but are being blocked by the Roosters and NSW Gov.

.....

It's got nothing to do with the Roosters at all. Its got everything to do with the NSW Government and Souths. According to a media report on Fox Sports website, Blake Solly signed a new agreement for Souths to stay at Accor in November 2021 even after acknowledging the upgrade for the ground had been pulled (source: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...l/news-story/5f2a89a8ce38b44616c42dc2b2a41632)

Roosters can no more block Souths from having games at Allianz than they could block any other sporting code. So stop peddling b/s.

In NSW, iirc, that is where the CRL steps in. They run all the competitions in the regions. It is often the CRL that are viewed as the biggest handbrake on things in relation to change.
