Rugby League is going to be paid big time in the next deal.

I see it smashing the AFL, the way it has Rugby Union and Soccer.

It's our time, baby!

We don't want Lachlan to have Ten. Less competition. Ten and Fox would dominate the bidding. Very unlikely that Ten would go for the whole lot, TV FTA and All Access.. Really at $115 pa Nine have a bargain. I think a FTA/ and streamer and Fox could or can work, just say it not exclusive unless specified. If a FTA with it's 'streamer want the whole lot, sell then, but stipulate that current FTA games are shown, but it's streamer MUST (other 5/4 games)show behind a paywall. This will created a kind of exclusive and 'competition' which Fox might pay what they pay now or little more as they can't lose their Number 1 subsciber. So FTA /steamer must pay at least $285m pa to $325m pa for the package while Fox chips in $300m HAPPY DAYS
There's just too many hypotheticals in there. Murdoch being able to buy 10 is unchartered waters. But it may get to that at some point if 10 goes belly up and the government intervenes. But really, a lot has to happen before we even get to that.

Thats making a big assumption that the $2bill announced was cash only. Why they'd leave $150mill off the announcement and for the first time ever makes themselves look worse by not including contra in the release Im still waiting on an answer for?

And if it was $2bill thats not $400mill a year due to the 2% accounting rule. It'll be lower year 1 and higher yr 5.

its more likely the cash amount last year was around the $380-385 mark for tv alone. That makes the rest of licensing around $100mill-$105mill which is much more likely based on reported figures from the past

Because this part from 2019 financials

The average % of tv money from the revenue is 61% across this period.

Using the $710m revenue for the last annual report.

61% is $430m. We know Contra is $34m

Same on the CBA, The players agreed to a 40% revenue share.

Their share was $1.34b - I doubt players will allow contra to be in their share. As they can't pay mortgage with it

Making the total across the TV period $3.36b

61% of that is $2.05b or $410m average across the 5 years

So the $2b deal that was announced fits in with the figures for the CBA and the same formula from the revenue figure.

Which ties back to 2022 and what Roy Masters and the AFR quoted the figures to be.

Nrl reported an increase on the $50mill 2022 Wagering revenue. That would mean a big drop off in merch and or digital revenue for the tv amount in licensing line to be $400mill.

Contra went up $9.6 mill. So out of the reported $32.4mill tv increase $22.8mill was cash. Dolphins cost around $18mill a year so for extra Content, more brisbane games and the good will of gifting them the rights with no competition the nrl came out with Less than $5mill.
hmmmmmm, Vlandys sure did well!

Digital services income at $2,692,000 or $2692 on page 159, so NOT included in Licensing ...

There would be a lot more in there if we went through it.

The head office cull saw these break in to different reporting areas.

Again Sportsbet is a sponsor a % of betting is likely inserted to that contract.

NSWRL and QRL are taking NRL to court, They have seen the books IF the TV deal was shit they'd go public.

So too clubs and the players.

NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo insists the league has been vindicated in its move not to extend the Nine Network's free-to-air deal in 2020 after signing a new five-year contract with the media outfit worth more than pre-pandemic levels.

Key points:

  • NRL agrees to extend broadcast deal with Nine for estimated $115 million per season
  • Nine retains exclusive rights to the State of Origin series, which will return to Wednesday nights
  • The league will keep its current fixture structure, but the addition of a possible 18th team could see rounds extended in future

The NRL announced its new deal with Nine on Monday, completing a $400 million broadcast portfolio for the league across all local and overseas rights.

So agin if we take off the Telstra $50m in the (only) Tv and PayTV stakes for the 2023 reported, that the NRL are on top. $400m pa NRL
$394m pa for the AFL

Merchandising was $12m in 2019 - you are probably looking at double that now. $24m

Sportsbet signed a $60m deal with NRL to be the wagering partner. Their deal with AFL is $12-15m - The difference you'd think is in lieu of wagering fees.

So you are taking Sportsbet out of that section. That includes their share of wagering revenue - you are looking at atleast the $35m difference in the sponsorship deals

Round it up to $40m.

So you start with

$485m

Merchandise $24m

Leaves you with $461m

Again lets say income from Betting doubled to $100m. Less Sportsbets $40m

That takes out $60m

leaving $401m

digital is in another section.

So again the figures point to that $400m cash is possible

The AFL starts on $444 million., for the recorded 2023 Budget.
Take out Telstra $50 million ( Telstra is not TV media)
Leaves the AFL on $394 million for All TV in 2023
Straight facts
NRL for all TV in 2023 is $401 million pa

NRLW is further expanding which adds value for next deal.

There is no way given the ARLC is after revenue just gave ch9 the 3 NRLW Origins for free.

Even if that is only worth $10m a year it is still TV money being added to the pot

The NRL earned $50 million from its deal with gambling firms last year (2022). It takes a 1.2 per cent cut of each bet placed and takes a greater cut if the bet is riskier or is placed on a marquee game, such as The Finals or the State of Origin. In some instances, Four Corners revealed that the NRL takes up to 17.5 per cent of all bets.

The AFL, meanwhile, took between $30-40 million from sports betting businesses last year. However, the code would not tell the ABC how much the deal is worth at the individual bet level.

I am not disputing the amount NRL gets in.

I am disputing that Sportsbet is included in that 1.2% of a bet

Due to sponsoring NRL $60m but only $12m for AFL. That is a huge difference for a like for like sponsorship in the 2 codes
