Sydney has enough rugby league.

Nearly every round is magic round.

f**k no.

It stays in Brisbane full stop.

Brisbane should have it secured now for quite a while at least, it’s been a massive success there.

Not sure how a whole round would go in Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide anyway, Auckland might be OK. Maybe when we get 18 teams to even up the home games again the NRL could establish 3 triple header “mini magic” days in Auckland and 2 of Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne spread over the year.

So you don't like sharing with other city's? I reckon it will be a success here in sidaney, just imagine how many people from around the country will travel for this.

Sharing.

Its not a charity

Brisbane pay a lot of money for Magic round.

It grows every year.

I am all for creating a 2nd Magic round but that will also have to make money for the clubs for it to be worth doing.

This sense of entitlement needs to stop.

Why not Sydney?

Does anyone remember the double header at the Olympic Stadium in Homebush attracted 105k people thru the gates?

If we don't try will never know...

You mean the official opening of the Olympic stadium in 1999 that had a fair portion of very cheap tickets to encourage people to turn up purely to test the new facilities?

Yeah, I was there.

i love a good Brisbane bash like the next but as long as the QLD gov pony up a competitive cash offer to the NRL, it should never move.

I guess if Sydney put up some money then yeh sure you could add an SFS or Accor triple header. Maybe Newcastle at a pinch too but I’d think a 40k Stadium minimum to make it worth while.

Melb , you're not getting the MCG or Etihad for an entire weekend during the season & AAMI isn't big enough
so nope

Auck , Eden park yes , but we are a TV game & the time difference will make it impossible
so nope

Perth , too far away so nowhere near the numb of travelers & the time difference while not as problematic as NZ still presents a problem.
so nope..

Sydney
maybe , if the coin is there but it wouldn't be special , theres mini magic rounds every week in Sydney with up to 5 games a weekend there every week.

so
nah
lets keep it where it is

Think Auckland would be the only viable alternative if Eden Park is a suitable venue
Would have a decent level of local support and not too far for tourism. The main benefit would be promoting the game in NZ

so
do we base it around their times & burn ratings here
Friday 4pm
Friday 6pm
Sat 1pm
Sat 3.30pm
Sat 5.30pm
Sun 11.50am
Sun 2pm
Sun 4.15pm

or fulfill our TV obligations & play games at ridiculous times over there
Friday 8pm
Friday 10pm
Sat 5pm
Sat 7.30pm
Sat 9.30pm
Sun 3.50pm
Sun 6pm
Sun 8.15pm

it just doesn't work well enough

like people saying an origin should be played there
again
it wouldn't work based on the present contractual TV set up

I think Newcastle should host it since we missed out this year. Would be a great too our economy.

Other place I think it could work is Townsville. They would really get behind it.

Not big enough venues to generate sufficient ticket revenue

& magic round is all about planes in the air & hotels being filled
the fans of all 9 Sydney sides
Newcastle
Canberra
Wollongong

aren't doing any of that for a magic round in Newy

Wont work in Perth, although NRL has a good following over here its not enough to support this event. We had Origin last year which was an amazing success, but outside of gameday and being in the vicinity of the stadium you didn't really know it was on.
Plus there are 2 AFL teams here, meaning a game at Optus every weekend. I cant see the AFL giving up the stadium for a full weekend for the NRL. We have a double header here in August on the Saturday and the Dockers are still scheduled in Perth that weekend.
We flew over for the first Magic Round and loved it, I can only imagine how good it was this year with a large increase in crowds and events. Looking forward to going to Brisbane next year and hopefully for many years into the future.

man i hope this is better but completely disregarded its a Thursday & weather has been shocking as well

Brisbane are usually a good draw though (especially amongst the casuals, capital city name helps)

I'm taking a few AFL fans from the office to their first game, hopefully some converts

It will fill Accor but like the GF, It isn't going anywhere. NRL is just getting QLD to pay more
