The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

Seemed to be a lot of empty seats at Shark Park, especially behind the goalposts at the Roosters end in the 1st half. And swathes of them high up (are those ones open yet?)

I reckon so! Stadiums have licensed capacities. The seated capacity at Suncorp is something like 52,200 (since the new screens went up) but they are still licensed to have 52,500 attend. They just make up the rest in the corporate areas.

I think that figure is what Bluebet is licensed and they just announce that figure when they oversell.

BlueBet wasn't oversold, Just the Hills had extra people. Lots of empty seats scattered.

I'd say when there were single seats only, people bought them and moved to the Hill

So when is the redevelopment of the area around Shark Park actually going to be completed, and what impact will that have on the capacity of the ground?
I heard someone from the Sharks say the other day that will just be shy of 18 000, christ knows what that means, I`m assuming that means 17 800, but who knows.

Ticketing agencies often oversell tickets, usually by accident which seems likely here given that people were having to stand behind walls. In any case, the crowd yesterday looked significantly larger than the two before, empty single seats in the stand included.

I remember when I did my little work experience stint at ticketek during uni, they accidentally sold section 714 at Suncorp twice for an event and those folk had to be moved to open air corporate boxes that weren't sold. Granted that was in 2011, but it happens.

Sharks fans may know better but I believe the club was hoping to get government funding to redevelop the ground to get to that 18k-ish figure. Maybe they were hedging their bets on having the prime minister in their electorate but they’re now stuck with the current capacity. I think the plan/hope now is to go into a 50-50-ish ownership deal with the either the state government or even the NRL?

Interesting what they do with the games next week. You would want storm Friday so warriors can have a good start time local on Saturday but the AFL will have 95k across the road Friday night. No AFL in Melbourne the next day so if ever there was justification to play both games on Saturday this would be it but I doubt channel 9 stands for that.

Same the week after. Warriors would get the Sat due to the early start.

Not sure you want Panthers on a Friday trying to fill Accor
