Currently, only Brisbane & Gold Coast get this opportunity to reasonably drive to away games (once each). So every other teams best chance of getting to games is at least 25% worse off than those with the advantage.

That’s why it’s only fair (and should be enforced) that Sydney teams take games away to growth/regional areas. Simple mathematics.

I cannot see the game remaining a mainstream sport with nine teams in Sydney and none in Adelaide and Perth. I fear we will end up like rugby union. It only took 20 years for the ARU to go from being a legitimate competitor drawing big crowds to a niche sport with a declining fanbase.

Ch9 took money away from our game and used it to buy the broadcast rights for rugby union, then bid $500m per annum for AFL. It's obvious they don't rate us and are preparing for a future without our game.

So how exactly did FIFA go about securing this "blackout" of the stadiums anyway?

Not many people care for soccer if the A-League attendances are to be factored in, and unfortunately the same is said for the women's game. Whole lot of hooflah for my understanding but am happy to be corrected or educated I guess.

Ground lockouts are a basic requirement that FIFA has to host their tournaments, in other words they won't consider bids that won't enforce the lockouts.

They do it for two reasons. Firstly, to protect the pitches from being ripped up by sports like rugby while they're using them, and secondly, though they'd never put it so bluntly, because it helps the success of their competition if they have as close to a monopoly as possible for the period their competition is run, and as the most powerful sporting organisation in the world they have the power to enforce such a monopoly.

I also think you, and a lot of other people, will be very surprised by just how big the women's World Cup will be. Obviously it's nowhere as big as the men's WC, but it'll be one of the biggest sporting events Australia has hosted in quite a while, and in normal times would push a lot of tourism (how many tourist it attracts given current circumstances remains to be seen). Also using the A-league as a metric for the popularity of soccer in this country doesn't give you anything close to an accurate reflection of it's popularity, and every expat in the country whose country is participating will come out of the woodwork to support their nation.

Also places like Shark Park lock fans out from attending

Plus season ticket holders get fed up with having their match day experience eroded every year but prices continue to go up

Next year with the womens SWC a 12 home game experiance gets eroded to 8 games

And we know some of those 8 will be played at fan dead zones of ThuNF and Fri 6pm

Tough for their home base fans, but they’ll want to go to other centres in NZ since they’ve been away for 3 seasons. I’ll be interesting to see which clubs will take games to NZ as a thank you during covid since those hypocrites at the NRL HQ have pretty much turned their back on taking games to NZ since the 2022 competition returned to bring a mainly pre-covid competition with limited to no restrictions

This will be a very interesting fixture. Storm could play at Geelong (oval but very narrow - OK for RL) or Nth Hobart Oval (small dimensions) where they got 12K for a trial in 2012.

They might take a home game to sunshine Coast where they were based at for 2 years and I believe they were looking at NZ for another one.

Not confirmed either btw just heard it mentioned.

But storm have a large fanbase in QLD now. So they may head up there.
