Souths Till I Die

Yesterday proved to me we made the right call on Reyno. Brisbane almost fluked a premiership this year and Penrith still took it from them with their backs against the absolute walls. Reynolds is not a big game player and ive believed this from the moment he left Souths. If Souths lost the game last night after leading 24-8 id be absolutely spewing.

We needed a halfback better than Reyno to win a GF and we might not have it just yet but patience is key.

So, sticking with Illias will lead to better results in the long run? lol

To be honest with you i dont know if Illias is the answer but i dont think he was the cause of our demise this year i think injuries and origin killed our momentum and we peaked way too early. I also havent seen Illias play in a final yet so i couldnt tell you if he is as much of a choker as Adam Reynolds is. lol.

I think Reynolds was hampered with injury last night.....but he was on the field, so you have to judge his performance and it was not stellar.
I think Souths knew they were dealing with a man who would basically have to be put in cotton wool for the remaining duration of his career. Time has proven it to be a bad call by Souths mainly due to the fact they backed the wrong horse. Illias simply (a) does not take much pressure off Cody and (b) not shown that much of a kicking game.

Illias played well at the start of the year. He had a great combination with Koloa and all the top teams were struggling to stop us. Origin came around and our team got decimated with injuries and we never clicked again in attack or in defence. I wouldnt be putting the blame solely on Illias. Walker, Cook, Latrell, Graham all fell out of form. I think bringing in Wighton next year will be big for us because weve been missing a good left centre for a while now and it does make a big difference. I also dont mind the idea of Hawkins getting a run. He was very composed in State cup finals.

I said the same thing about letting Adam go. Yea we were winning games, but we weren’t winning premierships. ‘21 was our best chance and we failed. If we choose to go with Hawkins next season it will be interesting, give Lachie a year in reserve grade or just invest in a better halves/kicking coach. Lachie is a good footy player who seems to have to defend a hell of a lot during games, this is where or edges need to be protecting him more so he can be a halfback, I looked throughout the season he was making a lot more tackles then other halfbacks.

I do still love Adam for all he did at South’s, but last night really drove it home that letting him go was completely ok in my eyes. He may have been injured but being injured doesn’t help win the game.

One of Lachie's best attributes is how good he is in defence but what concerns me about that is that maybe he would be better off becoming a number 9. I think number 7 is our biggest question going onto 2024. i would also like to see Mamazoules given more minutes as well. Cooky is past his 80 minute self and will make more of an impact in shorter stints. Cody and Latrell need to pull their finger out because theyre the best players in the league when theyre fit and playing their best footy.

To be honest i was kind of hoping Adam would beat Penrith last night because i really like him as a person and a player but for some reason he just disappears in big games. Cody Walker almost carried him to a prem in 2021 and Ezra Mam almost did the same in 2023. I wish Arey wouldve just taken the 2 year deal at Souths bc he wouldve been a great coach here but he wanted to do what was best for hin and i respect that.

But Adam wasn't offered a 2 year deal.
It was a one year deal with a club option on the 2nd year.
This has been well documented, over and over and over.
They are NOT the same thing.
Adam is on record saying he would have stayed if given two years guaranteed.
The Broncos gave him 3, and now are extending him for an extra year

Well it isnt the exact same thing your right because it would actually require reynolds to deliver results. He obviously didnt want that added pressure of having to perform so went with the broncos deal which is smarter for himself and his family. I am almost certain if he stayed with Souths and didnt perform he wouldnt have been left to go beg on the streets they wouldve offered him some kind of coaching job.
