So would the NRL still get a similar amount, or will it be higher or lower?
It will be more. How much more will be very much determined by two things. 1. If there is serious competition for the rights and 2. If the NRL negotiate well.
By then we should be at 18 clubs and have the 9th game to sell. That in itself SHOULD see an increase of around $30million a year. After that it depends whose bidding.
Current deal is an avg of $402mill year. If that is cash or cash and contra remains to be seen.
Next deal if there is serious competition we could get up to $500mill ish but will take competition for that to happen. It was alleged Ch9 were willing to pay $500mill cash a year and Ch10 $600mill cash a year for AFL. If either of those parties comes at the NRL with similar figures it would signify a big pay day for the game,
This deal for the first time ever we got zero cash increase from FTA for the rights. Vlandys let ch9 screw us so they could buy Union and bid big for AFL. Only in rugby league!
