Foxtel should pay nrl at least 100 million more pa than afl

fumblers and gillon are claiming foxtel pays the afl 490 million pa (I think it’s cap)

this would mean the nrl rights should go up from around 270 million now to 600 million

even if we admit the afl is lieing about their tv deal let’s say foxtel pay them 300 million then we should get 400 million pa which is a rise of 130 million pa just from foxtel

Again though people need to look at the $ per minute number more than the total

The NRL is dominating Television.

Oztam owners complaining about a system they created.

Fox is eating there lunch and now they want to change the whole ratings system to there advantage.

FTA networks dont have much time left before they are replaced.

This is how well the NRL is currently rating on Pay, its creating problems for FTA .

AFL fans are also latching onto this, massive cope on there part.

NRL viewership after rnd3 up 15% / crowds also up 25%

AFL viewership after rnd1 down 10%

Its a good time to be an NRL fan, games flying.

NRL 2023: NRL dominates AFL in Queensland TV ratings, massive numbers for Dolphins-Broncos

The introduction of the Dolphins has triggered an epic NRL broadcast ratings boost, with last week’s Battle of Brisbane producing a TV ratings bonanza.

NRL

The Dolphins-Broncos derby blockbuster attracted an extraordinary 1.3 million viewers as the historic Battle of Brisbane helped the NRL destroy the AFL in the broadcasting turf war in Queensland.
News Corp can reveal the birth of Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins has triggered a TV ratings bonanza and given the NRL an expansion strike weapon in their fight against the AFL for the hearts and minds of Queenslanders.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan put ARL Commission boss Peter V’landys on notice a fortnight ago when he declared Australian rules was on the verge of dethroning rugby league in the vital Queensland market.
“AFL – within a year or two – is on the brink of being the biggest code in the state,” he said.

But broadcast figures obtained by News Corp show the NRL is celebrating record ratings in Queensland thanks to the dawn of the Dolphins _ and is thumping the AFL in the process.
The Broncos’ heart-stopping 18-12 win over the Dolphins in last Friday night’s inaugural Battle of Brisbane was watched by a staggering 1,395,719 viewers across all platforms including Channel 9, Foxtel and their streaming services.
The Broncos-Dolphins derby entered the top five most-watched NRL games in TV broadcast history since official figures were logged 28 years ago.
The Brisbane metro free-to-air audience for the Broncos-Dolphins derby was 246,000 – more than four times the 59,000 that watched the AFL’s Melbourne-Lions clash on the same night.
On the back of the Broncos and Dolphins’ flying starts to the 2023 season, NRL broadcast ratings in Brisbane and Queensland are up a staggering 186 per cent and 130pc respectively.

They are extraordinary figures which have rubber-stamped the NRL as the premier code in Queensland, prompting V’landys to hail the ARL Commission’s decision to expand to 17 teams as a resounding success.
“The figures from the Dolphins-Broncos game are unbelievable,” V’landys said.
“I just hope the momentum of the Dolphins continues and keeps producing these incredible results.
“You have to hand it to Wayne Bennett. He is a walking marketing machine and this couldn’t have been done without him.
“The first Dolphins-Broncos derby was everything we wanted it to be and to see the commencement of the rivalry and how the fans and everyone in the code embraced augurs well for the future.
“It’s early days and we never get ahead of ourselves, but if these TV ratings are replicated through the season, then the benefits of expansion has exceeded all expectations.”
The Broncos’ gripping six-point win over the Dolphins was watched by 681,000 fans on Channel 9.
Fox League recorded 382,000 viewers and with a combined streaming estimate of 332,719, TV ratings data suggests the River City Rumble at Suncorp had a total viewership of almost 1.4 million.

The Lions-Demons clash at the Gabba was watched by 840,000 AFL fans on Channel 7 and Fox. Estimated streaming of around 220,000 delivered a total viewership of 1.06 million – well shy of the Dolphins-Broncos derby.
A TV industry source said the addition of the Dolphins as the fourth team in Queensland has been a massive coup for the NRL in combating the AFL in their sporting turf war.
“The data shows Queensland rugby league is absolutely flying,” a TV ratings spokesman said.
“Rugby league ratings have been down in recent years in Queensland but this year has been the best we can remember.
“The Dolphins-Broncos derby was an outstanding success and one of the most watched NRL games in history.
“More people in Queensland than ever are watching the NRL.
“The Battle of Brisbane has taken rugby league to a new level in Queensland.”
Dolphins super coach Bennett was blown away by the interest.
“It’s great to hear the impact we are having,” he said.

I just love it when we stick it up the afl 🤣

Do you expect to work less hours then others and get the same pay?
Yeh sure do if I’m smarter and better than someone else

your thinking just gives foxtel an excuse to pay us less

at least foxtel should pay us more than afl given it’s largely subscription based

that’s a start

f**k Fox. Cried poor than gave a shitload to the AFL. I initially wanted vlandys gone after stuffing up the deal but he has the game flying right now. I just hope he's holding a grudge and will get the game what it's worth next time. He must be seething that fox played him for a fool to put money in AFL's pocket. These ratings mean we can walk to paramount and offer a massive base of fans that will follow the game to paramount+

Yes

nine did the same then used the money saved to get union

they are all scum but hopefully one or both loses the rights

lets see how long fox would go just with afl and nine with union

700k average a game dwarfs any other sport

Yep and from which NRL made 10% profit from. So costs are down too match the less money
yeh because we arent buying assets and investing in grass roots becasue we dont have the money. You do understand that as a not for profit the more you earn the more you can spend growing your business??

No business ever said they'd rather have more $ per unit over total revenue lol

They bought that pub so can't say they aren't building assets. What is $ amount going to grassroots?

Exactly. You hit the nail on the head!
We invest $20mill in an asset they invest $200mill in asset. Why? Because they have a bigger revenue.
Grassroots spending For NRL in 2022 $70.3mill. Down $18mill compared to 2019.

Of course revenue is more important. Especially since any profit will have the clubs and players knocking at the door.

Hard to comment on grassroots without knowing the details. There may have been wasteful programs. Of course AFL spend a shitload on Auskick but to what effect? How many in NSW/QLD stick with the game due to a yearly AFL gala day in primary school? If the NRL were pouring the type of funds into VIC that the AFL are doing in NSW/QLD there would probably questions on the ROI.
It would be great to get costs down for parents. It's only $125 a season where I am(full kit just have to buy boots) but have heard it's more in the cities.

Well off tv ratings reservation so will leave it there, other than to say the clear link between higher ratings should equal better tv deals.
