when tv networks buy a sport they do so because of that sports footprint

so ignoring New Zealand essentially makes any discussion worthless

sky nz is an important part of the nrl tv deal buttercup

a second nz side is a formality we going to keep ignoring nz
This is especially the case given that so many Australian companies operate in N.Z. Westpac being a classic example and I`ve no doubt they would be very pleased with the amount of exposure they would of got through their sponsorship of NRL this year.

Sookie blocks people on Twitter who don’t agree with his viewpoint

Wookie is currently blocking abusive morons on twitter who cant accept that the Matildas outrated every other sporting event for the last 20 years. I

he blocks people on big footy who argue against afl

No I dont. In fact Ive never blocked people on Bigfooty at all. Bigfootys rules are a little more rigid than here though so its possible another moderator there has dinged you at some point.

praise him all you want but he doesn’t present the full picture and does it in a way which supports his favourite sport

Thats blatant rubbish. My ratings posts dont favour anyone, they show the ratings as posted by Oztam and VOZ - as each ratings post specifies.

when it comes to interpreting ratings data his views are just his opinions they aren’t fact

Next time just say you dont know what the f**k you are talking about.

When I make a ratings post its absolutely fact as far as the data is concerned. And easily verifiable through proper sources at Oztam and Virtual OZ or through the broadcasters themselves.

The reality is not all rugby league ratings are being counted. If this doesn’t bother you fair enough

The reality is not all ratings are available. If it doesnt bother you to blatantly make shit up more power to you - I CANT do that - my ratings posts and tables are used by media and uni lecturers ffs.

No one is ignorning them however they refuse to publish ratings data. Completely inventing ratings out of thin air is just f**king dishonest.

sky nz is an important part of the nrl tv deal buttercup

Sure

a second nz side is a formality we going to keep ignoring nz

It is a formality, no one is ignoring NZ. I just refuse to make up ratings that do not exist. Blame sky and Nielson NZ, but I will not just make shit up to appease the fantasies of the more irrational members of this forum.

Using finals series bvod ratio and extrapolating that across the regular season.

Using bvod ratio over the heavily effected Womens Football World Cup ratings period and extrapolating it for the entire season.

If you want to know what made up numbers look like, look no further than these posts from the Wookie.

Early yet, initial analysis

Love seeing stats like this! Show's the outright demand for the NRL on TV. Now only if the NRL could perfect the gameday experience and membership roll outs, we could see even further increases in attendances to increase the gap further.

@The_Wookie what do you believe the actual BVOD will be for both NRL and AFL? you said on Twitter the data might surprise people (unless you mean the estimated data).

Will the numbers eventually be released also?

What gap?

Couple of years ago on another forum, I put forward the hypothesis that RU fans with a Fox subscription were more likely to watch AFL over NRL when faced with a straight choice. This was partly based on disproportionate falls in AFL ratings the season after Fox declined to renew the rights for Super Rugby.

The ratios you're currently using for Fox STB/BVOD are 100% for NRL and 126% for AFL. Could it be that customers who are primarily RU fans, who used to have a Fox STB subscription, are now streaming AFL on Kayo?

The question is in the context of the Seven and Nine BVOD figures for the respective GFs - AFL 443k and NRL 607k. These represent a conspicuous contrast to the Fox BVOD percentages.

The key difference is that if you compare the Melbourne vs Sydney - Melbourne people are indoctrinated into afl, they have Friday off as a public holiday by example. This means that the Melbourne result is much higher than Sydney - rest of the country we are growing. They are not.

This is true, however people on here are not paying for the broadcast rights, nrl will present all stats and then ask for offers. So - yeah, he might not present nz, but the people that matter know and this should reflect in our next deal probably with smh/nine/stan

I got banned by wookie on twitter - but apologised & he unbanned me, his data was important to me. I’m nrl through and through, hate afl - he does do a great service.

The other reality is AFL is more of an Aussie game. The NRL is very multicultural, this will favour the NRL big time in the future. Across most markets we have growth available - NZ, Pacific/PNG, QLD, WA, SA

From a GF perspective, we are on par probably or it will start favouring us. However the real race is noted above where we are 30m ahead not including other ratings. We also have an international game that is highly competitive, parochial and will be worth $$$$$$.

Soccer won’t be able to match emotions of the pacific islands, nz and Australia games on home soil in the future. it might not get the country going like the momentum of a home World Cup, but it will pull the Tongan, Samoan, Fiji, PNG, Nz & Australian populations in. Ratings will only increase and the nrl should do a year to year deal.

This is based on what is being released from OZtam over the last few weeks. Previouis estimates for the season were based on the ratings released for round 1....and thats all we had.

Now those figures indicated a BVOD of about 80% of STB...which is what we've assumed all year, knowing that it was likely different, but with nothing else to gon on.

The surprise is that while the NRL was under by another 20% - its literally a 1:1 ratio - the bigger surprise is the AFL ratio is 1.26:1. And this is based off the last 6-7 weeks.

I'm not one for personal attacks and abuse and I agree with that sentiment.
I just wish this thread could stick to the facts.
Unfortunately, some on here (Harry included) treat this place like they probably do with their Twitter accounts.
It's completely unnecessary.
@The_Wookie and his information is invaluable.

If the data is incomplete for NRL then I don't see how it can be posted as complete for comparison to AFL, That seems to be the crux of the issue atleast on here

The crux of the issue is people wanting data that simply does not exist and every goddamn year apparently needs to be restated, even though the source of the data is published at the same time. We've known about the lack of NZ data for eight years and every year people here carry on like its a deliberate policy on my part to exclude them.

The crux of the issue is that this debate is utterly stupid. The poor bugger can only post data that exists or can be reasonable estimated. In all my years, and there have been a lot, I’ve never seen a more ridiculous discussion. It’s embarrassing being an NRL fan reading this drivel.
