The Daily Telegraph reported on a secret document that outlined just how far ahead the Broncos were compared to their NRL brethren. I wasnt overly fond of the “interactive button” thing, so Ive put it into my favourite format: bar graphs.

Reference: Every NRL club’s commercial, membership and game-day revenue revealed in secret document

In 2023, it was the Sydney Morning Herald that put out the NRls club benchmarking. Didnt have Broncos or Storm though.

Would’ve thought dolphins would be higher

Cowboys have come so far from being a basketcase for decades

Tigers are a rabble

It's always the WT and Sharks and I can't imagine their small fanbases are happy seeing their club dragging the rest of the league down.

We've had decades of excuses, if nothing changes then in 2030, 2040, 2050 we'll be hearing the same excuses again. Something has to change.

De-merge the WT, bring in the Brisbane Tigers and send the Sharks to Adelaide.

would be interesting if they also included leagues club revenue for those clubs that own their own leagusy's.

To have any relevance you'd have to know how much of the LC revenue actually found its way to tthe running of the FC. Its no more relevant than what Souths directors wealth is to the functioning of South Sydney or what News Ltd revenue is to the Brisbane Broncos.

Its interesting looking at membership revenue and game day sales, gives an indication of which clubs have a strong ticketed membership and which have a lot of walk ups on the day.

TBF to Sharks at least they are trying, even if it is a bit half arsed, to change things.
Tigers seem to be just drifting aimlessly from one season to the next.
Got to now be the most untapped potential at a club now that Warriors are getting it together.,

I wasn’t commenting on the Sharks.

I am assuming this is without the NRL grant which I believe sits somewhere around 19-20 million per year.

The commercial revenue factor does continue to support the commercial reality that modern stadia and large populations are needed for long term sustainability.

Warriors are a little concerning considering their 'raging popularity'. The NZ economy, demographics that are core traditionally (more blue collar, Pacific Islands and Maori) and MT Smart itself seem to possibly play into this.

It does play part in the Warriors reluctance to have another NRL side in NZ. (I personally reject it as Broncos have shown competition often fuels growth not inhibits it)

The Storm were listed as having an income of 37.366 million in 2024 so one would have to assume commercial revenue in the 20 million zone)

Penrith equal second with Cowboys. Only team in the top half without a modern stadium pushing up the numbers. A lot of room for growth there.

Disagree for a multitude of reasons as you're not comparing apples with apples.

Cowboys leagues was funded and set up by the Cowboys RL club in 1995 and then when it had enough money in the coffers after the move to the city site, bought the RL club off News Limited in 2007 to then become a fully community owned club. It's not owned by News/shareholders or Wests Newcastle leagues club which are completely seperate entities to the Broncos and Knights RL teams.

This is literally on the NQ LC website

"The Cowboys Leagues Club was originally founded to coincide with the introduction of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Rugby League Football Club to provide a social home for team supporters to promote, foster, fund and encourage aims and objectives of the Cowboys Rugby League Football Club."

The annual report combines all moneys in and out from both entities as well as combining the profit of both entities ($9.5m between both in 2024)
