Nah, the stadium's too shit for that. It's rapidly getting worse as well.

There was a weird stench coming from the western grandstand, and the concrete cancer in some of the older parts is starting to get a little bit scary. The way things are going there's a chance it could be closed for the public's safety like the AIS Arena was.
could be a good thing, would force the ACT govt to commit to an upgrade or building a new one

Good to know the capacity is now 27,706. Do you have a source for that?
Unfortunately nothing that concrete. 27,706 was the capacity I saw mentioned a few times in the lead up to the FIFA Women's World Cup, it was also the crowd figure named for 3 of the sold out matches played at the venue (Australia v Canada, Sweden v USA, Colombia v Jamaica)

I do see FIFA listed it at 28,870 (https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/articles/the-womens-world-cup-australia-new-zealand-2023-stadiums) but also said "Seating capacities are subject to change. Final estimated seating capacities will be confirmed closer to the start of the tournament." so maybe that means the true capacity is still closer to the original 30K.

The Women’s World Cup capacity would have factored in the repurposing of sections of the upper west level for media. All of those seats have since been returned to use, but there are a few rows of seats now effectively behind the new screens which would be unusable. I suspect current NRL capacity is around the 29k mark.

I think FIFA has some extra media space requirements. I reckon the new screens would cost about 500seats each. 29k seems about right.

Being 4.30pm instead of the usual 5.30pm clearly is an issue, you could see that same issue in Brisbane Thursday night.

yeah agreed, i landed at midday and there was a heap of sport going on at the Sports reserve, a few of my mates had kids footy up til 3pm so they only made it just before kickoff, it's the legit the struggles of regional cities.

I don't know why it wasn't the later game and the Warriors Storm the earlier game for NZ TV. The scheduling does my head in sometimes with their sheer stupidity.

That'd leave the Raiders and Brumbies homeless for years while the ASC, ACT gov, and Fed gov argue about whose responsibility it is and what to do about it, only for them to all agree to do the absolute bare minimum to get it reopened despite everybody agreeing that it needs to be replaced.

What was allowed to happen to the Arena was disgusting and the impact it had on the Capitals and other tenants was unforgivable.

If Bruce is allowed to get so bad that it has to be closed or condemned the Raiders should relocate.

Looked like more tbh

Still, going to be a good average to start the year for Melbourne, next home game we have Brisbane who typically draw good as well, Thursday night though
TBH I don’t care if it’s 22K or 27K it looked packed and had an incredible atmosphere. If all NRL games were like this it would be amazing IMO and people would be more excited to go to games.

It doesn’t look as good on a stat sheet but who cares.

Move back to Seiffert :D. honestly though is there anywhere that the Raiders could play down there other than Seiffert or Manuka if needed ?

Which is why it is imperative that the ACT govt find a new site with reasonable transport links.
Do whatever it takes to find a site close to the city centre. It would pay itself back in no time from the game day activation of local business. Parramatta city centre is gangbusters on game days since Commbank opened.
There is also no reason why the Feds can't kick in significant $ for a new stadium as well. The amount of money they give the AFL is obscene. Surely, a decent stadium in the nation's capital is not beyond funding properly. At some stage, maybe even soon, there may be an A-League team in Canberra as well. That's 3 tenants. Well worth the investment.
There is really no demand for any oval stadium upgrades. Manuka is more than sufficient for 3 games of AFL a season and a couple of cricket matches. If there is any submission for a multi-purpose stadium in Canberra, well the city will reap what it sows.
What it needs is a decent 30 000 seater with good (but not full) roof coverage. A Commbank style stadium would be more than sufficient.
Get it done Canberra.
