Far out, that’s two sell outs for round one. (To go with the warriors) I’m starting to become hopeful that last year wasn’t an anomaly!

Smaller stadiums, but we should have 4 sell outs next week.

- Cronulla
- Penrith
- Manly
- Redcliffe

The biggest risk in the early rounds is the number of matches at grounds with capacities less than 20K.

Round 2 has Cronulla (13.5K), Manly (17.5K), Redcliffe (10.5K)
Round 3 has Christchurch (17K), Belmore (18K), Kogarah (18K), Leichhardt (18K)

We need a strong start before the traditional mid-season lull. Having too many games at smaller venues limits our ability to keep the average above 20K for as long as possible.

A full house will greet the One New Zealand Warriors when they run onto the field just before 8.00pm tonight to launch the club's 30th season against Cronulla Sutherland at Go Media Stadium.

Not since the debut night against the Broncos on March 10, 1995, has the ground been packed to the gunnels for a round one match but tonight there's a major difference.

Games in Redcliffe should be played in those mid-season lulls, going there in round 2 is a bit early and probably knocks at least 10k off the crowd and that’s conservative. They shouldn’t be playing there at all IMO.

Probably should limit it to preseason clashes or games against real low drawing oponents, but cost of operating the venue is a factor - they would pay stuff all to run their own venue.

Yeh I understand they do it for a reason but the newest team who are supposed to be appealing to a large amount of people as ‘Brisbane 2’ playing in a park footy ground in Redcliffe is pretty amateur hour. People will say “it looks good on TV” but it really just looks like a full small stadium that a 2nd division team should be playing in.

interested to see Storm v Warriors in Melbourne next week. Would be first time this hasn't been on Anzac Day for a few years

Agree. It's not the like Dragons don't have any drawing power either in South East Queensland. If they snag a win against the Titans in Round 1, getting 20K at Suncorp is far from the realms of possibility.

Realistically how much money could the dolphins actually make on a 10k crowd at redcliffe even accounting for low costs?

The tickets are cheaper than what you can charge at suncorp and there is literally no corporate dollars to be made in comparison.

A direct comparison from last year is souths, where the crowd was 22.5k on a thursday night and this year it is at redcliffe and will get max 10k.
Are the dolphins really saying that an extra 12.5k at $50 a ticket and all the corporate packages doesn't cover the difference in ground rental?

Broncos pay $400k a game rental for suncorp so yes you’d think an extra $600k ticket sales plus the much better corporate facilities would more than cover the extra cost. The joys of bringing another suburban club into the nrl, they bring the mentality with them.
