Move back to Seiffert :D. honestly though is there anywhere that the Raiders could play down there other than Seiffert or Manuka if needed ?
Both Manuka and Seiffert are too small, and Seiffert is a disaster for transport links and parking and would need significant upgrades to be capable of hosting NRL matches at all (it'd easily be the worst ground in Australian professional sports to give you an idea). Mckellar park, Viking Park, and West Belco, are all way too small and would need similarly massive upgrades as well.

So no, there isn't another option in Canberra or Queanbeyan for the Raiders. If Bruce was unavailable they'd have no choice but to either bleed members and money at Manuka or play outside of Canberra at least on a short term basis, either of which would be an absolute clusterf**k that'd probably end up costing the club tens of millions of dollars. The damage it'd do would probably cripple the club for a generation or more.

If it came to that and it was me I'd honestly just relocate the side. I'd sound out potentially interested parties, pick the best one, flash Barr and the ACT government the finger on the way out, and never look back.

Weirdly the Brumbies might fair better under those circumstances because of their smaller crowds and lower running costs. They might be able to get away with splitting games between Manuka and Viking Park for a fair while. It might even save them a quid for a time, but it'd probably still kill them in the end.

Which is why it is imperative that the ACT govt find a new site with reasonable transport links.
Do whatever it takes to find a site close to the city centre. It would pay itself back in no time from the game day activation of local business. Parramatta city centre is gangbusters on game days since Commbank opened.
There is also no reason why the Feds can't kick in significant $ for a new stadium as well. The amount of money they give the AFL is obscene. Surely, a decent stadium in the nation's capital is not beyond funding properly. At some stage, maybe even soon, there may be an A-League team in Canberra as well. That's 3 tenants. Well worth the investment.
There is really no demand for any oval stadium upgrades. Manuka is more than sufficient for 3 games of AFL a season and a couple of cricket matches. If there is any submission for a multi-purpose stadium in Canberra, well the city will reap what it sows.
What it needs is a decent 30 000 seater with good (but not full) roof coverage. A Commbank style stadium would be more than sufficient.
Get it done Canberra.
The ACT government and most average voters (who are wilfully ignorant of the problem) totally disagree. . . People get the government they deserve.

The average punters were actually pretty funny. For years they whinged about wasting money on sports and entertainment infrastructure every time upgrading or replacing the AIS Arena was brought up, then when the arena was closed literally the same people were all like "how could the government allow this to happen?!".

Go to gold coast then. 10k grounds are a joke unless regional.
What's doing here?

Do you understand QLD geography?

Redcliffe is 40km north of Suncorp

Robina is 86km south of Suncorp.

You're suggesting they play 126km from their home base. Cmon

Well ahead of schedule however Broncos vs Cowboys on good Friday has about 300 seats left in the diamond category, and then maybe another 250 single seats. There will be a few held back for memberships that will be released throughout the weeks.

Broncos vs Dolphins on 12 April is selling very well too. Maybe 3-4k seats left in level 7.

Such is the demand that restricted view were released at full price for both games.

If 10k is the other option then yes.

Economically makes no sense for the Dolphins to leave Kayo for crowds of less than 25,000 - Stadiums QLD charges an arm and a leg for rental and the Dolphins - well Redcliffe - own Moreton Daily Stadium. Then theres traditional home grounds - which the NRL is all about still. Packing them into Kayo is probably the best option for the club.

It makes even less sense to go the Gold Coast, where they are even further away and still paying exorbitant rent.

For the Dolphins that likely means every game that isn't the Cowboys or Broncos going forward.

That's just a poor excuse and defeatist thinking.
The whole point of a second brisbane nrl team was to utilise suncorp every week. If they were serious their smallest crowd at suncorp would be 25k.

It'd be helpful if you followed the context of the conversation.

Suncorp is unavailable today due to Pink's concerts being played on Tuesday night. It's why Brisbane v Souths was scheduled Thursday and no there's no NRL there next weekend.

Wookie's reply was responding to someone who suggested that instead of playing to a full stadium in their heartland (Redcliffe) they should travel 125km down the road to Robina and play in front of...?

And if they didn't play at kayo, it would have been scheduled for another weekend or a dragons home game.

Its helpful if u realise how the world works.

Wookies reply was only comparing kayo to suncorp in reality, of course gc isn't an option.

And broncos v souths would have been on thursday regardless of availability because thats when channel 9 would have wanted it.

No. Cbus is also owned by Stadiums QLD. The Titans have literally complained about the rental costs there.

I am well aware, it used to cost the titans nearly $4M dollars a year to play there. Same reason clive palmers soccer team only opened the western stand cos it was cheaper.

But guess what? Now it doesn't, it only cost them around 100k a game to play there if memory is correct.

There is a way to negotiate with stadiums qld but like I said the small time thinking means they take an easy option and play out of a qcup ground instead of trying to get the big crowd at suncorp and make more money.

If you want to run down this hypothetical road so far, then it's probably even more helpful if you "realise how the world works" and that changing who the home team upsets the entire applecart. Single games being flipped in fixtures create all sorts of issues.

Broncos v Souths may very well have been Friday night had Suncorp not asked to maximise the ground prep time for Pink tbh. Penrith v Parra Thursday is not inconceivable.

Either way, none of those things happened, we had a full Kayo which given the available options was probably the best outcome, especially on a Sunday evening.

What were the options 4 months ago when the draw was being conceived?

I never suggested to change a single game midweek due to unforeseen circumstances.

What I'm saying is if the dolphins had of decided to play every game at suncorp then there would have been no conflict with a pink concert because the schedule would have been made to suit.

Get it now?
