As someone who doesn't know Sydney at all, just checked out a map breakdown and it looks like the Shire as its called is a bit out of the way from the centre of the City which is where I believe the Allianz Ground is, looks like possibly Manly to Cronulla is the biggest distance between 2 x Sydney teams but others from there might put me right on that score.
Be interesting as far as local Derbies go which 2 teams or areas/suburbs are closest to each other in distance.

Correct. This is why they aren't suitable to play out of Allianz regularly

Penrith is way out there too on its own

Penrith to manly would be a hell of a commute

Union 68k
68k of 65 yr old white males.

F knows how Union is going to survive the twitter generations. The sport is mind numbling slow.

EDIT: It might be the perfect sport for the twitter generation, you can play on your phone the whole game and only look up for the 5 minutes the ball is in play.

Still getting more than AFL proves how far behind that 'sport' is in this state

Let's be fair here.
The Swans do really well in Sydney. They have been a success.
And before I go further, I absolutely despise AFL, the game and the racist, drug hiding culture, and their arrogance. If there is anything the Vics would hate most, it's a Sydney team winning "the Flag". Lol. Winning a "Flag" is laughable.
What I seriously despise though is the arrogance of that organisation thinking that they could just waltz into Western Sydney, throwing hundreds of millions of $$ into a new team, bribe local councils to take over local parks and bribe schools into converting, falsify playing numbers, member numbers and also exaggerate attendances at GWS home games to make themselves feel better.
They clearly didn't read the demographic of Western Sydney very well. It was no surprise that that same Western Sydney (Blacktown team) was abandoned after less than two seasons, despite 10's of millions of taxpayers $$ having been invested in them. They couldn't move further east quickly enough, trying to tap into the higher demographic of the whitey afl east of Sydney. Therefore, they never truly represented the area that their name claims. Is it no surprise that their Woman's team now plays in Newtown?
Despite their name being Greater Western Sydney, they now don't even represent that region.
Why? Because the population in Greater Western Sydney don't actually give two f**ks about them.

Tonight's sell out shows how far the game has come and the value of a world class new stadium.

It probably translates to a 37-38k figure but for context, roosters/dogs the same game in 2015 got 35k
Roosters v Manly would have pulled 25k in 2015. The new stadium has been a revelation in Manly, selling out every week.

The Telegraph showed some figures from the past, everyone looks back on league in the 80's and 90's being the 'Golden age' but when Penrith won the comp in 1991 thier average home crowd was 11k, when the Eels won in the 80's thier home average was also 11k. Teams like Illawarra and Western Suburbs were average 4k

It's not just League, but football as well.
The Wanderers have been an absolute basket case for years. Yet wait till they rise again and also Parra. It will leave GWS for dead.

Sharks got 19k and had two genuine sets of circumstances going against them

1 - direct clash with swans prelim
2 - train debacle.

Not unreasonable to suggest they get 25k if both those things aren't in play.

What would other Sydney teams get against the same opponent for a week 2 fixture?

Roosters - I reckon we get 30-32k

Manly - can't see them getting more than 25k

St George - who could say with their fans current cynical attitude towards the club.

Tigers - see above

Penrith - I don't think they get more than 25k at ANZ

Dogs - 50k on the current wave of support but after a few years of finals appearances probably something more in line with parra. History proves that consistent success doesn't lead to outlier crowds, it is the initial season of success that provides that.

Parra - 40k which they proved in 2017

Souths - probably the same as us.

I don’t think 20% of potential attendees were kept away. Would have been 22-23k.

Any other Sydney team would have cracked 25k for a week 2 final against a non-Sydney team. Would expect several (Roosters, Eels, Souths, Bulldogs) would be comfortably in the 30s. Manly, Dragons & Penrith! would push 30. Tigers last ever finals game was a week 2 game on a Friday night against the Wahs in 2011. Pulled 27k.
