It's most definitely not Pay TV, it's VOD (online streaming).

Having one company monoplise the TV rights is a bad outcome.

But also
- Stan's User Interface (UI) sucks arse
- Boomers will struggle to use something that doesn't involve flicking channel
- Regions with poor internet coverage will struggle to watch
- Having Phil Gould and Freddy Fittler being involved in 8 games a weekend is a ratings disaster.

It's the worst of all worlds
We dont want them to win it, just to bid and push the price up!

Id like to see 10/paramount win it, go to 20 teams, 4 games FTA a week (Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun) and 10 simucast games on streaming. Paramount to make it available globally on their platform (inc 1 game a week on CBS).
That would be perfect and a breath of fresh air for the game, presuming 10/paramount can do a good job of producing and promoting it!

Having 9/Stan or 10/Paramount own all the rights has its own sets of pros and cons. They're just different pros and cons to the current 9/Foxtel arrangement.

As others have said it's all about increasing the number of bidders to boost the total deal.

Fox aren’t losing the only product that makes their network viable

Stan will keep them honest this time

nine 130 to 140 million
Sky nz 40 to 50 million
Fox 400 to 500 million

I suspect they will be selling a 19 team comp with the 19th team to come in mid contract

Seven have AFL until 2032 they cant and wont show NRL as well.

If Paramount wants to grow then a vehicle like NRL is the perfect way to do so. It adds probably a half a million subscribers + overnight. At the moment its sitting in 8th spot, it could move up to 3rd with NRL.

Having forked out over $400mil for AFL do they have that in the kitty to do again for NRL? I wonder at what point subscriptions stop covering costs for sports rights for them?

If I were 7, I'd push for Sunday night AFL/NRL. They would win the most important ratings night for 8 months of the year.
Yeh another night on fta for league is something I was thinking of

there’s also Monday night football which foxsports would crave

When afl own channel seven they can talk

Games not involving Sydney or qld team would have none watching anyway
those games are already on 7mate in Sydney and Brisabne. haha yeh AFL will just let their investments in NSW and Qlnd be relegated to the second channel. You're day dreaming.
Seven wont get both codes. Nor should it. We should have NRL on main channel nationally!

Exactly leaving the main channel for league in nsw and qld

maybe seven is tired of having no ratings in those markets

especially since there is a halo from having origin

Can you explain what you mean there? You are (correctly) stating that Aussie Rules is shown on 7Mate (a secondary channel), but then go on to say they wouldn't let there games be shown on secondary channels?

It needs some clarification.

As for the AFL ratings for ANZAC Day, that game is quite literally there biggest game of the year bar finals, so thats basically there Origin done for the year.
