Yea horrible mate.. You're carrying on like This but the sharkiesdon't kick off for another 30 mins..

C'mon bro let's have more fun with Wally

You're trying your hardest buster! I admire your dedication there isn't too much you can do from Hobart mate

Justin what does that geniused bloke have to be careful about?
I like how you’re pretending not to care whilst responding 3 times in a row to the same post. What a f**king loser of a human you’d have to be to keep wasting your time like this after all these years.

I remember over 20 years ago, Australia played against Great Britain. Adrian Morley was sent off after just 12 seconds of the game with a high shot on Robbie Kearns. GB virtually played an entire game with 12 men, but were narrowly beaten 22-18.
Shaun Edwards was sent off after 25 mins in the first test at Wembley 1994.

Attempted decapitation of Bradley Clyde. Graham Annesley did the honours. Not many complaints.

Great Britain 8 Australia 4. Even fewer complaints.

I usually hate it when anything we do is "lower" than the fumbleball mob, but in this case I`ll make an exception.:D
This illustrates the dilemma in rhetoric when using ratio to make a point.

Lower Reach/Average ratio equals higher Average/Reach ratio and vice versa.

Went with "lower Reach/Average" because Reach is listed first in the published ratings tables.

I don't think they instantly switched off but say at halftime when it was 20-6 to a side with a man advantage and 9.30pm then it is easy to see people switching off. Kids with school the next day especially

Starting the game after 8pm is too late for a optimal audience but for TV is good to sell commercials for.

I don't think 5.3m people started out watching the game for example. You can't probably take out 500-600k of those just getting scores

4.5-4.7m to watch kick off is probably more realistic. For it to average 3.4m you be losing half the audience over the course of the game

It is hard to compare to last year because a new rating system and the Ashes would of taken viewers away.

There is no reason a closer game 2 couldn't see 4m or so which is huge numbers and probably more where the sports popularity sits right now
All interesting speculation, but the bottom line is that the Reach/Average ratio for Origin was conspicuously impressive. Similar to the high retention rate for news programmes.

The reasons why viewers tune in to, or out of, Origin will be many and varied. No different from other programming.

For instance, the send-off clearly did nothing for your night. However, you perhaps underestimate the extent to which Queenslanders enjoy seeing the Maroons pile on the points, particularly in Sydney. Crowd shots of glum faces may be as beguiling as the tries.

Even if you get every QLDer watching. You still have 20m or 80% of the country tuning out, You need to get a product that gets the majority watching for as long as possible

"Average 3.436m inc BVOD 760,000"

Are you saying the 3.436m includes the 760k?

Do you have 5-City Metro/Regional breakdown data for Women's Origin 1 and 2?

Yes the VOZ data has included BVOD in the total tv ratings all year.

no it wasnt.

its 1v1

The swans/cats game was a separate broadcast.

7 won the evening slot with the Melbourne/Adelaide AFL and Brisbane/Sydney/Perth Dream House split.
NRL won the afternoon slot as the Swans were only on in Sydney.

Not that I watch it but it puts NSW/QLD/WA Dream House viewers an episode ahead, so 7 has to catch it up this week. That's the problem with split programming for both AFL & NRL in those Sunday Night slots. The only thing that really works is Origin & Grand Finals, or you show 2 games split targeting 3-4 metros. Otherwise you throw out the schedule too much.

The figure I've seen had Women's Origin 2 at 1.068m

The two Matildas games v China were 667k and 1.095m.

Even against the better-rating Matildas game, one would assume the ratings in Sydney and Brisbane for Women's Origin are appreciably higher. Which demonstrates the impact of Women's RL.

Cricket will be the largest beneficiary of reach. Most people won’t watch the entire over, innings they will swap back and forth and that double counts the audience. Same with golf or Motorsport. The action is slower, but you want to see what occurs every now and then.. but not for the entire time

the 2.256m 5 city is Total TV (includes BVOD in the metro area). Regional would have been 3.436m - 2.256m = 1.18m inclusive of BVOD in the regions
You have a bracketed note in one of the posted tweets saying that although the methodology has changed, "Voz data was available for Origin last year".

I looked on the relevant Sports Industry page for Origin 2023 and all the data for 5-city Metro, Regional, BVOD, was listed separately. With BVOD this year subsumed within the 5-City and Regional figures, does it not make breakdown comparisons with previous years impossible?

The article contains a quote from the director of 9Now - "9Now once again broke records with a BVOD reach of 815k and an average of 536k".

Presumably some BVOD viewers can be counted in Reach ratings but don't show up in the 2024 BVOD column?
