Same argument in origin where nsw / canb has 11 clubs whilst qld has 3.5

They do need one more nrl side at least

Ideally if Christchurch does well they would look at Wellington and even Hamilton for nrl sides

Qld has four. Plus rugby league is the most popular spectator sport in the state. A code that is entrenced in the state's culture.

Back in 2011 then Premier Anna Bligh said "We are Queenslanders" with regards to the floods. Bligh sounded like an origin coach or player.

As for origin, it has the infamous eligibility rules. Not as simple as the player's state of birth.

Yeap, even the restricted view seats released this morning have all gone. Only accessible seats remain.
Sorry, what does “accessible seats” mean in the context of stadiums?

To me that are all “accessible” otherwise no one could get there to sit in them.

I know that isn’t what it means.

Looks like the tournament is on track to average about 32k in attendance, beating the previous international Rugby League tournament record which was 26k at the 2004 Tri Nations (with no Australia or GB/England involved, could you imagine saying that back in 2004)

Be awesome if the world cup could come close to or even top the record next year. It will be a competitive WC with a lot of interest so possible. 2026 could really become the point where the RLWC really becomes a respected international event and will hopefully grow stronger and more lucrative with each following edition.

We've got 5 contenders as it stands and moving forward Fiji, PNG and France have an opportunity to improve.

Record RLWC average attendance since it moved to tournament format is 17,707 in 1995. Next year should be able to beat that record.

5 contenders is pushing it. Australia has to have a bad game to lose.

France and PNG should be the biggest improvers in the short to medium term with new pro clubs playing at high levels in each. That's a big "should" though.

Of course it's Australia's to lose, but we've seen them fall short in multiple finals over the past 20 years (Out of the 12 Tournament Finals held between 2005 - 2024 the Kangaroos have lost 5) and more recent times, we've seen both Tonga and NZ beat them and Samoa continue to grow.

England is possibly the hardest to argue as being a contender, although I guess they have defeated NZ, Tonga & Samoa all recently.

Hopefully the games played in PNG are played at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium versus the National Football Stadium. Even if the upgrade to 25,000-30,000 isn't completed before the RLWC, the 20K capacity it supports now (https://www.shmspng.com/facilities/) will play a significant difference in the success of the event.

RLWC needs Australian and Kiwi fans to turn up. And try to get as many English fans behind it as possible. Theres over 1 million English born people living in Australia. Some clever marketing and game day experiences for them to get them to pack out England games would be worth the effort. Plus getting the venues and fixtures sorted ASAP so English fans wanting to travelfor it can get saving and planning.

Interesting to see English SL clubs starting to sign French players. That can only help the depth of the France squad.

My club (HKR) have a partnership with NQ, Id rather we had one with a French League 1 club and supported Jnr development and opportunities for their players in SL. If we could get 2 French players in all 15 English SL clubs it'd certainly help the Int game.

There is not 5 contenders, there is 1 and that's Australia, let's not kid ourselves.

Underneath that it is as competitive as its ever been with NZ, Samoa, Tonga and England battling for 2nd best. What's not often stated is the rise of Samoa and Tonga has been to the detriment of NZ who for a good decade there offered genuine competition to Australia.

Still, crowd wise, it should definitely be the best average if they choose the right locations for the right games. They have manufactured Aus v NZ at SFS and Tonga vs Samoa at Suncorp (I Assume) as part of the pool draw so that will help.

Or .. NZ having played competitive teams multiple times every year has developed an improved chemistry between the current pool they do have
