Well Game Day is just about upon us once more and it’s a Friday Night Blockbuster in round 5 back at home against our biggest most bitter arch rivals in the Sydney Roosters. The biggest rivalry in the game that stretches back to 1908. Hate is not a word we use lightly but it’s probs not strong enough to describe how we feel about these pricks from Bondi. If you’re a Souths supporter from a young age it’s inbred into you how we feel about these guys! Every year on the calendar we mark the games against them as the games that you really want to win in! There is already a massive amount of stories in the book of feuds and another chapter will be added tomorrow night. They got us twice last season and it hurt a lot now it’s time for us to do a job on them! A win tomorrow night would mean so so much to go 4 and 1 to start the year who could’ve imagined that. One things for sure yes we have had a good start to the year but we can’t take this game lightly at all anybody can beat anyone if you’re off your game. Yes the Roosters haven’t had a good start to the year but they will be desperate to turn that around tomorrow night. What I’m hoping is we get about 25,000 Souths faithful out there tomorrow night being that 18th man to get the boys home. Last week we had a big win against Penrith and now we have had an 8 day turn around. We need to reset and do it again which is far easier said than done. Once morning hits tomorrow everyone get up with a spring in your step and put those colours on proudly I sure will be. One thing that makes me nervous is we are the favourites for this game we are expected to win but the boys not need worry about that we need to work hard stay focussed and things will take care of themself.

Looking at the Roosters they’ve had some injuries like us. They get Watson back which is a big boost. Up front Whyte has been doing a great job he can pose danger to us. Angus and Wong are very solid on the edges as well. Whilst Radley is out they get Nat Butcher back. And we saw a couple of weeks ago how good their young bench was against Penrith. They have Sandon playing solid at 6 too and in the backs Teddy still can pose a big threat as well along with Young and Tupou. So they still have plenty of ability over the park to pose us problems. We will need to stop their offloads as I’m sure they will try to throw plenty. Wouldn’t shock me if they try bait our lads too to bring them off their game. For us we get Trell back and what a big addition that is for us having him at centre it’ll be good for Trell to get some miles in the legs. We need to get him plenty of quality ball as well. In the pack getting Hubner back is also a boost we have missed him the last 2 weeks he gets through so much work in the middle so he’s a welcome addition. The keys for us will be matching them in the middle and we will have to get our kick chase on, good line speed in defence and most of all complete our sets highly and get into the grind play that Wayne Bennett style of football and win those effort areas. What we can’t afford to do is drop as much ball as we did in the second half against Penrith. Also with the crackdown on high tackles to the head the boys need to be very aware of their discipline we can’t be poor there otherwise the Roosters will make us pay. Aim up in the middle and it’ll give Cody, Jye, Trell, Wighton the opportunity to put points on. As for Jamie he’s been going great guns and once more we will need his kicking game tomorrow night.

Well not long til the players come out here onto Accor Stadium for the local derby a Friday Night Blockbuster against our arch rivals the Sydney Roosters. Great to see so much Ree and Green in the stands here tonight getting right behind the good guys in the Mighty Cardinal Myrtle. Let’s make sure everyone wherever they’re watching knows this is South Sydney home turf and a South Sydney home game. Let’s do all we can in the stands be that 18th man and help get the boys those 2 vital competition points tonight. Lets make sure we have that Mighty South Sydney chant up and going around Accor Stadium for the full 80mins here tonight!

Well, 8-6 lead at HT but we have had a ton of ball on their line and not managed to really gap them. Hope that doesn't come back to haunt in the 2nd half.

Losing Humphreys early on to a hammy issue was a big blow, as was Trell's no try just as he was grounding it.

This has turned into a tough defensive game apart from 2 sift tries each. The Roosters are rushing up in defence and not getting pinged. Mmmm.

If we can score 1st in the 2nd half and get a gap on them, we could set ourselves up but we must be better with the ball in the attacking zone.

The plethora of injuries is astonishing. Cursed perhaps.
Burt has stuck with Sullivan but he has been found badly wanting several times.
Time to see what Dodd can do and perhaps play Mitchell at 6. The side badly needs some attack and speed.
Alex J too needs to return next contest.
The pack seems wooden legged, no yardage and little sting.
