Maybe if Queenslanders didn't prattle on about this 'Queensland is the centre of the RL Universe and you Southerners are soft pricks' crap, threads like this wouldn't start up. Deprived of context, this thread is stupid, pointless and antagonistic. Given the crap that Queenslanders have piled on NSW crowds this year, it's hilarious, amusing and antagonistic. Live by the Sword, die by the sword.

Whinge whinge f**king whinge. At 31 deg it was too HOT? Maybe if you are from Tassie. You lot live in that all year round!!!!

Bugger me, the Warriors turned up in BLACK jumpers. But at least they showed up!

Pathetic. You lot carry on when there are 3000 empty seats at telstra for an Origin game. But you are happy with 3000 empty seats for a home semi?

Even Manly supporters - generally to arrogant and lazy to follow their side past Clontarf, will smash that figure next week.

We'll go as far as Palm Beach and Balgowlah and all points in between thank you very much. Not coming from the Northern Beaches, It amazes me how insular they are. It's almost as bad as the Shire. Almost...

Maybe they should move the Cowpats to Cairns, Mackay, Birdsville or where ever their supporters drive from for Saturday night games. Maybe they'd get a decent crowd then!

considering 10% of the stadium was shaded and 90% of people where in the sun for 89% of the game i dont blame some people staying home i could have cooked an egg on my beer cup it was so fricken Hot

i'm sorry but excuses will not cut the mustard banana bender. sydney crowds got absolute sh*tted on during the rampaging storms, floods, people dying, a massive chunk of the highway collapsed, road closures all over the joint and pissing down rain for a week non stop and we still copped it. sorry, but on a beautiful sunny day and you can't turn up? obviously never been to test match cricket

I can understand why the crowd would be down, given the circumstances.

What annoys me is that the NRL has given the Cowboys special consideration in their decisions to schedule all the Cowboys home matches in a time slot that allows North QLD to draw the best crowd, while the same luxury has not been afforded to clubs like Canberra which have repeatedly requested more Sunday afternoon matches to avoid the below zero Canberra nights.

But while the NRL has accommodated the Cowboys they haven't extended the same treatment to Canberra who regularly receive Saturday night crowds, off to the detriment of their attendances.

So perhaps North Queensland fans could be more understanding of extenuating circumstances that often prevent larger crowds in places like Sydney, Canberra, etc.

Colonel, Don't inject common sense into this thread. Name calling is fun.

Pretty much bang on. They get a pretty decent ride from the NRL compared to NSW/ACT clubs, who get a real 'like it or lump it' attitude with their fixturing and who have suffered heavily from the reduction of Sunday fixtures. Manly only got 3 home matches on a Sunday, by far the best drawing day for them this year.

Agree, the loss of Sunday games would have affected the Tigers crowds as well as they usually draw a better crowd on Sunday afternoons.

The biggest reason for the smallish crowd was distance not weather. One third of the Cowboys season ticket holders live more than 100 klms away. Add to that the supporters who aren't season ticket holders but travel to a few games a year & especially finals games.
Criticise away, most NQers don't care what southerners think of us anyway, but make sure you critise us for the real reason.

Well it says something that's for sure. I take it you dont/wont appreciate the complexity of the sport because;
You were always picked last at school to play cricket, and as such laughed at and made fun of, because of your efforts.
You are very unco-ordinated and were subsequently hit by bouncers every over,
You have red hair and very very white skin,
You are not really australian.

;-) ;-)

So, now that Dairy Farmers has hosted a Sunday arvo game and got nearly 22,000 for it, do we hope to see more Sunday afternoon games held there next season (especially in Winter, when daytime temps are cooler)? Do you think that the Cowboys should be made to play some Sunday arvo games (3pm ones preferably) next year, like all other teams?

That's an excellent point re the Raiders, Colonel. IN fact, Melbourne and Cowpats seem to be the only clubs who don't have to bend to TV pressures - like Souths in recent years having to play at 5.30 on Saturday arvoes, or NZ home games virtually camped in wintery Saturday nights.

In fact, the biggest sacrifice made by the Sunday semi decision came from the Warriors.

Crap crowd, Queensland.

Brilliant point. I can't wait to see NQ play Canberra in a semi in Canberra on a saturday night, in sleet, because of all the Raiders fans that have to drive up from Griffith.

We come bearing Quirky Streetside Cafes and ethnic food. Resistance...is..futile. We're well on the way to destroying Brisbane's country charm and turning it into a Sydney/Melbourne Clone Hybrid, next it will be your turn. I'll open a Tapas bar in Innisfail to get the ball rolling.
