Noticed an advert screening on FOX that has Fox Sports and the Australian government proudly promoting/supporting womens niche sport. At no time does this advert show any womens rugby league yet shows union, soccer and AFL. No womens rugby league to be seen.
Are the women's games televised?

I don't know that an ad is worthy of the faux outrage tbh

Occasionally flick to it in the hope they might have a Western reds game on from 95/96 but alas not yet. They should show the entire 97 WCC series that would be a laugh.

It's still an example of rugby league being excluded from a feel good sports theme. It's not as if the womens rugby league doesn't exist? So why doesn't it have some exposure as well! ?The advert gives a leg up for all other football codes and not rugby league?

I'm all for calling out media horseshit towards Rugby League, but adverts are something that I rarely give a shit about.

If the NRLW wasn't being televised anywhere, then that'd be something to complain about.

Furthermore, Foxtel doesn't need to promote Rugby League, given the game basically gave subscription TV relevance.

Foxtel does a lot more for RL in Australia than any of the FTA stations do.

I think Foxtel does alot for other codes as well! I do agree that the free to air coverage is questionable from channel nine and it needs to improve. However other codes are getting a great amount of leverage abd publicity through FOX. Given that rugby league is its chief ratings winner provider I think that the level.of coverage for rugby league , especially the international game is lacking. I also think the FOX LEAGUE channel can do a lot more than its doing in the off season. At least a weekly magazine style show would be nice? No argument from.me about the poor coverage through FTA tv. It's actually extremely dissappointing. Still can't believe an NRL game is not on FTA tv every Saturday! I might add that I cannot understand why next year's World nines tournament is not simulcast with Fox!? It seems the FTA dudes/programmers are avoiding showing the international game? It's pretty piss poor. Rugby league deserves better.

I believe the RLIF manages the media side of things for International games. In the past they sat back and allowed nations organise International fixtures that were then approved by the RLIF to be declared as official games/Tests etc.

Now the RLIF have decided that they will do all of that organising, which will hurt the NRL a little in TV rights negotiations.

The International game needs to be more passionately promoted and broadcasted. Not just Tests between Australia, NZ, England, but for teams also like Serbia, Ukraine, Norway, Canada etc

It would benefit everyone, everywhere, at all levels.

It's the way forward for rugby league. About 4 years ago an executive summit with a noted sports media lecturer as guest speaker advised the NRL to embrace international rugby league as much as possible. I don't think this is happening. The treatment or lack of proactiveness in not seeing the benefits of the Kangaroos v Great Britain playing in prime time Australian tv is an example of the lack lustre efforts by all concerned. If I was a tv channel executive I'd be demanding a Kangaroos v LIONS test in Australia! And the administration should be pushing this as well. But no! All concerned are letting it slide. It's so dissapointing.

We need an Australia v Great Britain Test Series again.

3 Tests. Talk up the Ashes again.

Then televise the Baskerville Shield between GB and NZ

Another 3 Tests.

Agree. Unfortunately to not at least host one Lions test in Australia is an absolute disaster of a mistake. To think an already touring Lions team isn't seen as an attractive proposition by the NRL to play the KANGAROOS in OZ? ! It's ludicrous on so many fronts! It should also reflect on a lack of proactiveness from the international rugby league as well. It's a shocker! Shame all round.

I think you'll find the RLIF would be more than supportive of this.

It's a matter for discussion between the RLPA and the NRL most likely

Yes. Thought so. And this is where the issue is. A SOUTHERN PACIFIC tour by the British Lions that does not include at least one test against the Kangaroos in Australia is an embarrassment for international rugby league and a missed opportunity for players and fans and the code.

They had their first game v St George on the other night.

Dang!

The French Comp is running right now, they could get the rights for next to nothing, show us some RL during summer I say! A weekly current affairs show wouldn’t go amiss either with latest international results, debate on stuff like the Greece fiasco, French Comp highlights etc. get vossy to host it. New content for our subscription fee please fox!

When do they announce their shows for this season?
They generally have a launch within a fortnight of season kickoff from memory, but I don't know that there's much in the way of big changes to the existing schedule. Sadly that even means the Professor appears to be continuing I think.
