It's even less done now than a few years post Kolkata tbh. Modern captains in general seem to hate enforcing the follow on

Not only have we wasted this session, with the most movement of the whole test, we've lost momentum. 3 down now, England will be way happier than they deserve to be

Its because the dressing rooms are full of performance managers obsessed with the bowlers workloads

Nah guys, our bowlers need the rest!!!!!!

FFS any idiot could see the right call was to enforce the follow on. New ball in the night session, it's been hard enough so far with older balls and some walnuts reckon batting was the right call with a new rock? FMD...

The pitching outside leg rule is absolute nonsense. It essentially serves no purpose except to punish bowlers who can spin and swing it. It worked out for us this time but I have always hated it.

Its because cricket authorities want the bowlers bowling outside of off stump. Simple as that

I have no confidence in Handscomb seeing stumps with his stance.

I think that's a bit of a cop out. I mean yeah, it's true, but seriously can you see Pidge and Lee and Dizzy copping that? Steve Waugh would have been murdered by his bowlers if he'd made the same call in this situation (had this situation existed at the time)

Surely the bowlers have to be in the skippers ear saying "set us loose, let us knock these pricks over" and surely the captain has to be thinking about winning the game....

It's all about this rubbish workload management. The "experts" have decided princess quick bowlers are too fragile to handle it. Even though they've handled it for decades when teams were running on budgets a fraction of what they have now.

Somehow bowlers were physically stronger in the era before they were surrounded by an army of dieticians and masseurs and physiotherapists etc.

Mate I agree it was the wrong decision but Ponting turned down pretty strong positions with McGrath in the side.

This shit is actually what is making the bowlers soft imo but what do i know i am just some pleb on a forum

Which is why wides are called much more strictly down the leg side which is fair enough. But if a ball is hitting the stumps it should be rewarded. In this era of mammoth bats and ropes sometimes 5-10 metres from the fence something should be done to even the odds slightly and to give something back to the bowlers. IMO relaxing the LBW rule would make for better cricket.

We'll lose 5 nil but I tell you what watching the likes of Bancroft, Warner, Khawaja, Handscomb and Marsh bat in England will be equally hilarious.

I’m ok with the decision to bat. If you enforce the follow on and England make it safely to stumps and get a couple of partnerships tomorrow then it can get nasty.

We’re still well on top anyway.

Let's add another couple of stumps too, why not

Its not called any more strict in test cricket really.

Nobody wants to see a left arm quick bowling that sort of line anderson was bowling all the time or leg spinners just chucking the ball out wide every ball outside the batsmans eyeline

The LBW rule is fine

That's because you are an idiot.

It's to discourage negative bowling and keep the game live.
Pretty sure Bradman was behind the rule change, because back then that was a tactic that was used often to slow the scoring rate and a wicket taking option.

BM once again showing us how clueless he is about the game of cricket.
