The simple fact of the matter is that we aren't as good as the press reckoned going into the series. I don't even see how we are better than England. I thought maybe our home advantage might help.

We need to be realistic about how good we are but that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be accountability at Cricket Australia. Even if he was doing a wonderful job Sutherland has been in the role for a long time. Some new blood would be good anyway.

And a guy like Pat Howard should never be in that position.

I know I go on about it but why is some old ruggers merkin anywhere near the role of performance manager in Australian cricket. Has he even played a game of cricket in his life ???

I genuinely don't think this post would exist if we enforced the follow on.

Say what we want about our batting, it's pretty much fair, but our attack is better than theirs in our conditions. The difference right now is we gave them the best bowling conditions and they gleefully took them. And you've already mentioned a big reason for that decision, Pat Howard is f**king disgusting.

Everyone is much of a muchness at the moment - but like I've been saying for a while it makes for entertaining cricket

Anderson is a fine skillful bowler in these sorts of conditions

These English plods are getting my hopes up but we all still know it'll end in defeat.

A bit like being led on at a nightclub by a piece of hot clunge only to be given the cold shoulder in the moment of truth:(

I'm expecting defeat purely because I am an Eels fan and I am thusly conditioned :(

@Front-Rower that is a really interesting post you dug up there. What I would like to see is global rates of enforcing the follow on too. I feel like it has been decreasing world wide and I think there are three reasons for that.

1. Pitches flatten out a lot more than they used to. Particularly in Australia pitches no longer really crack up but hold together and essentially turn into dull lifeless blocks

2. Teams bat a LOT deeper now so its not just the case of seeing off the top 5.

3. Test series are compressed to fit in a bunch of limited over games. If there was some common sense in tours being longer (and this would make touring sides more competitive because they could get used to conditions with an exra tour game or whatever) it would give bowlers longer time to back up.

He will retire as one of the best cricketers in his generation, unbelievable what he can do when we need it the most with bat and ball

Why the hell is the ball not swinging at right angles for us like it was for them last night.

Because they are better swing bowlers. James Anderson certainly will retire with a few question marks over his away ability but if the ball swings he is deadly
