Hughes IMO is better the higher up the order he is.

Watson ideally is a 6. But Watson chucks a tantrum anytime anyone suggests he go down the order. Don't know if Lehmann and Clarke want all that drama halfway through the series.

Yeah I though Hughes would be better at 3 given he's an opener and Khwaja a middle order bat.

What we need to do is whisper to Jamie Lannister that "he is nothing without his father!" and cut his right hand off*

* I have watched Game of Thrones too much

Depending on form..

Would a Hughes/Khawaja opening partnership in the near future be something you would like to see? Or should Silk & Maddinson be earmarked as the next openers?

Silk and Maddinson need to score much more at 1st class level before they're in the conversation.

I do think Hughes and Khawaja would be a good partnership. They compliment each other very well. On side player and off side player. Back foot and front foot. And both are better against quicks.

I'd have them opening in the 3rd test.

Well here they are in the 10th over batting together. It's almost like opening.
