The other thing that I think is pretty important to this discussion regarding keeper batsmen is that MS Dhoni, mentioned as "one of the only two" great keeper batsmen, was a rubbish test match bat

Just saw Smith's dropped catch.

This guy takes screamers and drops absolute sitters that you'd expect 12 yr olds to catch.

Ricky Ponting syndrome.

Still rare though. West Indies and Pakistan have never produced one. I doubt Prior would have been picked as a batsman alone.
Prior was a better Test batsman than Dhoni. A better keeper, too.

Very underrated Matt Prior. A real game changer.

Also Quinton do Kock is fast joining the list. He's a Gilly clone.

Gilchrist might not have either TBH at least in the great teams he was part of, Dhoni certainly wouldn't have. Flower and Sangakarra are top of the list, AB too is freakish.

Why do we constantly play one day games without a recognised spinner??? Bits and pieces cricketers Shit me to tears. It's how the Poms went through the entire 90's.

Some people really need to let things go in regards to comparing wicket-keepers to Gilchrest. In the history of cricket, there have only ever been two wicket-keeper with whom I'd class as exceptional batsman..Gilly and Dhoni. Alec Stewart was also very solid. Every other wicket-keeper in history really scratches for their runs.

Test match perspective only, BJ Watling is very strong at both crafts. Can't play limited overs to save himself though. Not Gilchrist like but worth his weight in gold.

Crowd looks crap in the 'sporting capital of the world'.

As I mentioned in the MCG pitches thread, ODIs in Melbourne not involving England or India should be played at Etihad Stadium. Etihad would've had the ideal capacity for today's ODI, and would've generated a better atmosphere and looked better on tv.

Why isn't handscombe batting at 4? Mitchell marshs best contribution is always carrying drinks.

Not bowling particularly well. Build pressure and they'll fall apart. Stop giving them so many boundary balls
