2nd Quarter Final - India v Australia (Match E) March 24th

I dont know what u guys think but when u look back at it, i think the turning point were those two expensive overs after dhoni was out. we were building a lot of pressure and india had to score more than 6 an over but those overs really changed the momentum and india never looked back

It wasn't going to make much of a difference with a batting powerplay they were still hovering at the 5 an over mark and the req rr had just crept above 6 at the time.

260 was never enough it had to be 280+ which we should have got and who knows if we could have reached it had Dussey came in to bat above White.

Lee has always been prone to those leaks, Tait was just deadset shocking apart from the Tendulkar wicket and Johnson just hasn't been effective of late. Krejza produced some jaffers but was deadset average in between, no wickets on that wicket is the shocker especially for this supposed attacking spinner that is meant to rescue our Test hopes. And not enough aggression by the openers, we need to go back to the successful formula where our openers take it to the bowlers.

Ponting or Nielson have to tell Haddin to cut loose and give him the freedom at the start of the innings or maybe Haddin needs to do it himself, he has the ability to do it but always seems to be stuck between having a crack and pacing himself then he gets himself out with half hearted shots but tbh the openers get us off to good enough starts that the rest should be finishing.

Wrong team. wrong captaincy and wrong attitude, well done to Punter for finally making runs. Now he will play until the next Ashes FFS!

Yep I agree although he needs to develop another way because he kept trying to go towards leg to go offside but everyone know that about him so he's relatively unsuccessful. However I would say his ODI career should be over or shortly because I don't think he'll be there at the next WC so we need to start the rebuild now.

Hmm I think our attitude was a bit wrong going into that match, especially demonstrated by the first thing ponting said after winning the toss was that 250 would be a good score. we needed more than that today...

Also Haddin, people used to get angry at him for slogging fifty then throwing his wicket away, but its a lot better then what he's providing at the moment

Ponting remains a champion... and a mediocre captain...

Better team won... Australia placed their faith in a quick bowling attack in slow conditions, and that's what cost them... moreover, Tait and Johnson are expensive at the best of times, and Lee while the best of them is inconsistent too...

260 was a very competitive score on that wicket - it was turning in the first over, but India bat deep..

Really hope we smash the subbies.

Then we can hear them whinge that the competition format wasn't right and its a disgrace how they've lost so many TV viewers as a result.

Awww my heart bleeds for them

f**k I hope we win, I'm sick of Indias sh*t when it comes to cricket. Just read a,story that indias national paper ran a front page story in their paper about how Australian players met with gangsters before our game vs Zimbabwe. If that sh*t doesn't fire us up, nothing will

I have a feeling about this game. It would be absolutely fantastic to knock off these cocky arrogant Indians on home soil. Either us in a tight one or we'll get pumped I reckon

:lol::lol::lol:

All this hate... makes the win even sweeter.

Two problems:

1) We're not the team we once were.
2) We didn't select the best team available.

The selections of Krezja, White and Tait were baffling. Ponting's captaincy was awful as always.

Despite his hundred, it's probably time to go. This side needs a fresh start.

Shame Harris was injured.

Commiseration Aussies

My word, the trophy cabinet is looking somewhat bare... Union, League, Cricket and Soccer

Still, I guess you still have the netball W/Cup,,, for a while...

chins up :D

I really dont think we had a choice.

Would you be happy with Krazy leading your spin attack, if he's the best we got then we have no choice but to play our pace attack imo

Great 100 by Ponting it would be a good way for him to go out, his captaincy was awful again. But to be fair we picked the wrong line up for these conditions. 3 outright quicks on that wicket was madness, Hastings should have been in the mix, and Smith for White should have been a given. sh*tes 12 of 22 probably cost us the game, Dussey played a little Blinder and if he had of come in earlier we might have got to 280.

I'm not sure wat Ponting hopes to acheive continuing his ODI career it's not like he will be around for the next WC. He should be tapped like Waugh was tapped. Maybe hand over the test captaincy to Clarke and stay on for this summer as a player only could be the answer. Whatever happens i doubt he will go quietly.........

Don't doubt that, but I wonder if a pace attack based on line and length rather than speed would have been preferable...

The Ponting hate still gets me... while he's not as good as he was, I don't think he should have been written off...

Pace was our one weapon, I guess, because our spin was rubbish. And our best line and length bowlers were injured essentially.

Ideally in our 15 man squad we would've had Lee Harris McKay Johnson + spinner, IMO. McKay should be good going forwards in one day cricket also. Unfortunately Mckay and Harris both injured and Hasting trash, we didnt have alot to choose from.

We could've given Stuart Clark a ring, his economy rate in the short forms at domestic level was supurb all year, although he's not likely to take many wickets.
