I have no blanket ban on change, & never asserted that..

We no longer have the depth for unecessary changes to the side..

I'm saying zero changes, there is only 1 spinner in the side, so there is no way that hypothetical could happen..

We've just won our first test in ages & now people are proposing changing the winning outfit..

Boof has finally got them feeling good about themselves, & confident..

Changing the lineup now could affect that..& this dynamic is what has got us on top..

We've finally got a side that know how to win..

No need to tinker with that..
Agree with Horrie, i also don't think this is the best side we

could have picked but all of them deserve another chance on a wicket that looks like it will be a good batting deck. Boof has got these finally believing in themselves again we don'y want to ruin that.

The game hasn't started yet, a few blokes should be under notice i.e. Watson,Bailey and Rogers. But we murdered them, do you really change a team that just won by nearly 400??? If we look at the wicket and it is an absolute green top then you would think about leaving out the spinner but from what i saw it doesn't look like it will be helpful for the quicks so lyon is a must.

You just made my point.

You don't change the side unless conditions warrant it. All i said was that it wouldn't be dumb to make changes based on the lifeless road at Adelaide. It would be stupid to name a side and not take the conditions into consideration.

You were the one who suggested we leave out Lyon because the pitch might have less pace and bounce. The only wicket in Australia i would think about leaving out a spinner is Perth and even then i would still pick 3 quicks and a spinner for balance. The Perth wicket is not really perth anymore.

What if we make these changes and get beat by an innings?

what if we won by an innings? or not make any changes and get flogged by an innings

lots of ifs and buts, will also pend how Ungerland play

We need to pick the best XI for the conditions, that we believe will win us the test

Dropping any of the batsmen for Faulkner or another bowler would be crazy. Our batting has been horrible for some time now, and even on a road I don't have much hope of us scoring much over 400 unless Clarke scores big.

Resting any of the bowling attack is equally crazy.

Adelaide Second Ashes Test pitch to be slow: groundsman..

Date December 3, 2013 - 2:48PM

ADELAIDE: Adelaide Oval's head curator Damian Hough says he's nervous about his ability to produce a typical Adelaide pitch for the second Ashes Test.

For the first time at Adelaide Oval, drop-in pitches are being used and the outfield grass was only laid six weeks ago - changes due to a $535 million redevelopment, to be completed next March.

Hough says the pitch for Australia's battle against England starting Thursday should be typically Adelaide, but a little slow.

"We are trying to produce a typical Adelaide Oval pitch, something that will be good to bat on and something that will hopefully spin as the game goes on," Hough told reporters on Tuesday.

"We think it's pretty close to what we have had in previous years. It might be a little bit slower this year, being brand new."

The oval re-opened last month and the initial two Sheffield Shield games produced run-heavy draws.

The drop-in pitches were grown within the oval precinct but Hough admitted nerves about the Test strip.

"I'm nervous going into every Test," he said.

"It has been nervous, it has been exciting ... we're doing all we can to produce a typical Adelaide Oval pitch.

"It's going to take us time to get it exactly where we want it, there's no doubt about it. They (drop-in pitches) behave slightly differently.

"The soil is coming out of the exact same location as what was out here when Don Bradman was playing.

"Same soil, same grass. Everyone has just got to realise it's brand new ... and it's going to get better the more we work on them and the more we use them."

An article I read In the paper said over the last 2 year period

We have scored over 500 in an innings 5 times (twice over 600)
Poms only once over 500 (that was in india)

None of their batsman in this period averaged over 40

make that what you will

I've played on 2 brand new pitches and they were very slow and hard to score on. They also wear vey quickly.

No doubt the standard of this pitch will be a lot higher that what I played on but they take a bit of getting used to.

Its generally takes about 3 years to mature.

Yes there is. Best thing to do is stick with what works as much as possible.

People are missing the point with Faulkner in for Bailey. He is there for Harris & Johnson, to make sure they don't have to bowl too many overs and can back up for Perth. If Harris & Johnson are 100% fit in Perth we win that test, guaranteed, the poms will piss their pants on that pitch.

And Faulkner will probably do just as well with the bat as Bailey, who looked bog ordinary in the first test. So really its a no brainer.
