Warner and Cowan both have done significantly worse in their last 5 tests than Hughes did in his last 5 before he was dropped. A hundred is good but you can't be a top 6 batsman by getting 1 decent score per series.

FWIW, Hughes is current 102 n.o, his 4th score above 80 in 6 shield games. He's reestablished himself at the front of the queue.

Also, if Ponting doesn't score here serious questions have to be asked about his place in the team.
