Fascinating snippet here: I'm now hearing that England coach Andy Flower and skipper Andrew Strauss went to the Indian dressing-room at tea and asked MS Dhoni and India coach Duncan Fletcher if they would reconsider the appeal. Fletcher and Dhoni said they would talk to the rest of the team. The decision was then made to offer Ian Bell a reprieve. In the meantime, Bell has moved on to 140 and Morgan to 37. The ground still throbbing with intrigue, excitement and giddy gossip.

I am not sure that that is in the spirit of the game either. I am pretty sure that the whole incident would have reflected incredibly poorly on India especially Dhoni had they not recalled Bell, but recalling him doesn't change the initial unsporting thing that happened. All it did was take the legitimate dismissal of a big wicket away from them.

Bell gone (again) for 159, won't be coming back this time. Morgan has gotten himself on a roll, so Bell is not a huge loss having already made 159 runs. At least now the uneasiness of the run out incident is no longer staring at us, now that Bell is out for good in this innings.

Prior is out there now

Perhaps England's greatest and most underrated strength is their depth in batting. It really is quite often the difference between winning and losing.

How often were the great Australian sides from the late 90s to mid-2000s in trouble only for Gilly with the likes of Warne, Gillespie and Lee to change the entire momentum of the match.

And now England with Prior, Broad, Swann and Bresnan are capable of doing the same.

exactly right, its got nothing to do with Flower, its not a coaching issue

its entirely up to Dhoni and England were very fortunate that this happened on the stroke of the break when Flower had access to Dhoni via the change rooms, he should never have been in there

Yeah pretty poor for Strauss and Flower to go over.

It's nice to see a recall, because you;d get a recall at most other levels of cricket (except for against certain local clubs), but was careless from Bell and legit wicket really.

Oh well, England lead by 374 now with 4 wickets in hand, game as good as over

I disagree, I don't think you would be likely to see an incident like that, India were asked to confirm if they were appealing for the wicket and they said yes. They took it back during the tea break. I think in any other game in the first instance you would not confirm yoru appeal for that wicket because that was the shit unsportsmanlike thing to do, the batters were coming off the field for a tea break they believed has been called ... it was a legitimate wicket they had already appealed for it (Already done the shitty thing), recalling him does not take away the shitty thing they did it just takes away the outcome of it and a legitimate wicket India earned and decided to appeal for. It does however make them look better and being asked to think about it, they know what they would like an opposition to do for them (which is what Dravid said swayed the Indian players to agree to recall Bell)

what right does andrew strauss have to go into the opposition dressing room and do that after claming that catch to dismiss phil hughes in the 2009 ashes?

So, was Dhoni pressured to recall Bell?

That's poor sportsmanship from Strauss and Flower but hey what do you expect from South African's and their neighbours? They've been the worst at it for 20+ years across all sports.

Your greatest strength is the recruitment of South African's.

Well, well, well ain't this some shit:

I wouldn't have recalled Mathews - Flower
England team director Andy Flower has said he would not have called back Angelo Mathews had be been in Andrew Strauss's position. Strauss said his decision to recall Mathews after he had been run out last night was influenced in part by the fallout from a similar incident in England last summer, but Flower did not share the sentiment.
"I would definitely have not recalled him," he said, "But Strauss is a good man and I trust him completely. He made his decision and I back him on that, I just wouldn't have done it myself. I would have sent the batsman on his way. He ran into the bowler. Simple deal."
LINK

So when the shoe is on the other foot Flower is all too content to send a batsman packing but when it happens to them he's off in to the dressing asking for the decision to be reversed.

This is what Ian Bell is quoted as saying:

"From Praveen's body language, it looked like that had gone for four," Bell told the Star Cricket channel. "Probably naïve on my behalf, but taking into account the spirit of cricket and everything, this was probably the right decision."

So here we have Ian Bell assuming the ball has gone for four and yet somehow the Indian's are supposed to be concerned with that? Rubbish.

This is what Rahul Dravid had to say:

"In the laws of the game, if you follow them strictly, that was out, but it didn't feel right in the spirit of the game,"

http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-india-2011/content/current/story/525477.html

Over the years India have come under scrutiny over sportsmanship and even on their last tour to England there was MS Dhoni claiming a catch that bounced one metre in front of him and I have no doubt that the Indian's asked the umpires to reverse the decision after Strauss and Flower came wandering in to the dressing room purely because there would have been an enormous amount of backlash against them, not to mention they were being jeered and he crowd were chating "cheat, cheat" when they walked off the field, despite the fact that they had every right to say no.

Bresnan on 90*, Broad on 42 off 28, England 7/538.

Team India's reign as world number one is soon to be over, bowling has been pathetic. A fit Khan would make a difference but you cant be number one with this support crew

Dravid out before lunch. England well on top right now. Could finish this match tonight.
Team India 8/1 at lunch. Need another 470 to win. With 5 sessions left in this match if they bat them out they will win.
