The pitch seems to be mellowing out, if it continues to flatten out Mr. Teeny might have a bit more luck and as said already a larger total may not be so impossible.

Glad the Indians showed some fight though, will make for a great finish.

Brett Geeves had an article in Foxsports today that was spot on regarding Starc's irresponsible shot yesterday... then he did what he tends to do more often than not in tests with the ball... spray it all over the shop.

Completely agree with him but I'm also inclined to put a lot more responsibility on the shoulders of Warner, Handscombe and Mmarshmallow. If they had contributed more. I know warner got a start, but we need a lot more from an experienced opener like him and he was been terrible in the subcontinent overall (can't catch either).

Aussies looked like they were completely disheartened late on day 3, and if they don't get a very early wicket today, this partnership will flourish again. Even if they declared now, the chase would be nerve-wracking, so 200+ will be simply too many for a side that has 3 passengers in its top 6.

Dare I say it but there are shades of the 2001 tour here. Dominate and win the first test, dominate the first innings of the second test then fade away and lose the series. Gosh I hope I'm wrong but the writing is on the wall..

I don't know, I think 200-250 will be far to much for our batting line-up when the pressure is on. We have to skittle them this morning for about 30-60 runs to have any shot at chasing this down.

To be fair, you shouldn't be relying on your strike bowler to be propping up your weak middle order.

Yeah it's our lower orders problem that our top order didn't go on with their starts and we have an absolute potato batting at 6.

Starc smashes a bunch of sixes in the first test and turns an ordinary total into a pretty good one and we win. Gets caught out trying to do the same thing here and gets called irresponsible. Tough crowd.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. First test he knuckled down a bit to help us get over 400 in front, blokes in here were like "f**king hit out mate!" Now he gets out hitting out and it's "f**king irresponsible mate!"

yep, exactly, he bats the way he bats - been playing those shots to the spinners all the time - that's why he bats 8 - as many have mentioned he's a shitload more use with the bat than the fellow you keep picking at 6

Good to see Davey Dumb Dumb knuckling down for a pedestrian 30... I wonder if he'll revert to type at some stage - a quick 80 could be decisive here

Its a fair criticism of starc in general he has no desire to do the hard yards with the bat but i think its unfair in this specific case.

The way the tail batted at hobart for example was gutless and starc was as gutless as anyone for example. Thats a fair criticism

That really is the question. 5 overs so far for no result and 0 runs. MMarsh is that unwanted subscription that people just keep forgetting to cancel. Selectors have probably forgotten he's even in the side.

Might have to start calling him "Stan".

The unwanted subscription that's good for nothing that they forgot to cancel.

Lots of different factors now, in those days it was appeal and out for India, Australia were quite irresponsible at times when they just had to bat out a session, and Jason Gillespie nearly inspired a last ditch effort to steal the final test.

I was a big Indian cricket fan then, but it was a mighty close series, the Aussies were right in it.
