Lost 3/1.

And after being sensationally dropped, Sir Donald Woakesman won't be there to save them

There was a time when Broad was up to the crucial 8 spot but those days are gone. To be fair he's still better that ours in this test.

ICC but have to fine these teams, having Broad and Southee at 8 is bringing cricket into disrepute

We all know the Number 8 spot is where it’s at.

You would think he's had enough chances now

I'd bat Root at three Bairstow at 5 or 6 and add Buttler, surely he could average 20 as well and he's just great to watch

I have been thinking that for some time too. Bairstow can be an even better batsmen without the gloves. He would make a good number 5 maybe even 4.
I don't think Root wants to bat at 3. They need him at 3 though with the inexperience that will be at the top of the order once Cook goes.
Buttler would surely add more in terms of runs than players like Vince and Westley

I was listening to the Sky Cricket podcast. There’s a keeper in their squad who has a first class average of 41.

I think the idea of Bairstow as a keeper is great if the top 6 are good bats. But, to my mind only Root in that lot is. Studefish slices across the ball. Cook is old AF now. Malans feet should be on the Easter island statue. Vince is a one trick mediocre show pony with no stickability.

I’d bat him up the order and put the young keeper in.
