Doubt they will make to many changes with the batting order, Uzi fo Marsh will be the only change and maybe Cummins for Shitchell.

Haddin is a lot easier to remove than Punter is, but you do need a replacement for him with the gloves which Australia don't currently have in South Africa. Having Haddin at number 7 just makes the Australian batting order look real ordinary.

Sooner the first test is forgoten about the better

Usi may come in for Marsh. Bring in Copeland for Siddle

This is Johnsons ground, he will be retained, and IMO this is his last chance to deliver. Needs to be cut from the side for an extended period. Ponting needs to deliver or be cut for good

Hopefull we can level it

And what happens if Johnson does have a blinder? We might win the test, but he will more than likely revert back to shit Johnson straight away and we persevere with him for another 6 months. He's used up all his chances imo - time to bite the bullet and dump him. And not just "rested" for one test either. He goes back to Shield cricket until he can put together 1-2 consistent first class seasons. Hasn't improved since his first test.

Ponting's time is up as well. He's no chance of being dumped for this test, especially with Marsh's injury, but it is just sad watching a former great reduced to such a liability. He shouldn't be given a farewell test at home either - he's had plenty of opportunity to go out on his own terms.

Haddin is saved only by the fact there is no reserve keeper on tour. It's not simply the lack of runs either - it's the utter stupidity of his shots. That's not the first time he's tried a shot like that when we've been 5 for nothing. Mentally weak. Get Wade or even Nevill measured up.

I'm going to throw in a curve ball.

Hussey
Warner
Khawaja
Watson
Clarke
Ponting
Haddin

Rule 1 don't weaken a strength to strengthen a weakness.

5 & 6 are the only two spots we can have some confidence with, why would you f**k around with that?

Exactly. The worst possible result would be for Ponting and Johnson to play, have good games and then save themselves for a summer of shit. The calls on both are overdue. They have nothing to complain about. Haddin has only recently gone bad, but it's real bad and at 34 what's the point of waiting to see if he comes good (and losing games in the meantime) when Wade is doing all you could ask for and more. No more soft options.

why play a spinner if he isnt going to bowl and with Warner there he can throw a few down if required. Ponting needs to give it up, probably post this tour but he will probably play this last match. Time to look to the future IMO

Not a bad line up caylo. But i'd drop Siddle forever and have Bollinger there instead.

Watson at 6 would be better for the batting order too

Just throwing it our there for this test which I think and hope will be many people's last. Hughes is a major problem as an opener, his constant failures put pressure on Watson who is not an opener anyway which then trickles down the order.

I'd leave Lyon and let Cummins wait a bit longer, and Wade would be on the plane tonight for Haddin, but pretty much my thinking.

Watson is getting out first more often than Hughes, (8-5 including 6-1 since the Ashes) so maybe Watson's constant failures are putting pressure on Hughes? Who is still only a pup anyway which then trickles down the order.

Moving Watson down the order is I think a much more pressing concern than arsing Hughes who averaged 40 in SL. I've said plenty of times that if Hughes hasn't backed up his ton in SL with some more scores by the end of the NZ tests that he should go back to the Shield (except the stupid big bash will be on then) for a while. But he deserves at least until then.

I know you're being a bit more realistic about the chances of Ponting being cut than I am, but I think we both agree he should go. Even on that basis leave him at 3 or 4. Much better for our future to have him fail again and make it obvious that like Border before him a great's career should end on the Veldt than to have him jag some soft runs at 6.

I think that the fact the last test debacle was in SA and we are still under the old selection panel saved a lot of careers, at least until we return to Australia. It's time for Warner to get a run although I still have reservations about aspects of his game. In saying that I think they might try Marsh at opener. It's definitely time for khawaja. Hughes probably deserves another chance, of his 14 tests only 4 have been on home soil, let him have a full series at home.
For the first test in Australia.
Marsh
Hughes
Khawaja
Watson
Clarke
Hussey
Wade
Harris
Copeland
Cummins
Lyon
Warner in at opener or 3 if they decide to drop Hughes or Khawaja. Ponting, Haddin, Johnson and Siddle gone.
If cummins is the anointed one play him. A spinner is a must and always will be. The only time you don't play a spinner is if you're the west indies of the 80's and 90's.
