No better feeling in Test cricket than 4 competitive days that you know will be followed up with a 5th where the game could go either way.

If Clarke and Ponting get more than half of that 168 together, you'd think it's ours.

I welcome any new fan to cricket but some of the cliches you're dishing out are laughable.

The 3 most experienced players in the Australian side should get us home, weather permitting. Ponting's innings has been guts and determination, which is what was required but still shows how far his skills have fallen. The young ponting would have scored a hundred already and dominated the innings. Still, can't knock his effort.

The pitch hasn't detoriated that much and Tavir doesn't look like the kind of bowler to go through a side quickly. Steyn, as ever, is the key, he seems to be able to produce the great spell no matter the pitch or age of the ball.

Cummins could be anything if he gets some support down the other end.

Perhaps someone who can bowl a tight line and length and restrict the scoring.

If only Trent Copeland was available. Oh wait he is....

This match has been a great advertisement for test cricket and makes the shortness of the series all the more depressing.

I am obviously hoping that Australia can do the job however weather looks like it will be a factor.

Cummins has earned a spot for the remainder of the summer and it looks like Punter has saved his. I hope he has the sense to announce his retirement effective at the conclusion of the 4th test against India (or after the 2nd test of the NZ series in Hobart if that is his wish)

"new fan"...fmd. "cliches"? wtf are you talking about. Did you even ready my post? WTF did I say that was so wrong? That I like a competitive test or that if these batsmen get a big chunk of the remaining runs we should win? f**k me you're a nuffy.

And I am not a "new fan". I've liked Cricket for as long as I remember. I tried to make myself be left handed to be like Tubby after he scored his 334 in 1998...when I was 8.

I know you're fascinated by my greatness but I thought I was on your f**king ignore list. Don't tell me: you've read hundreds of books on cricket and watched hundreds of documentaries as well? I've said it before pal and I'll say it again, you might be able to fool some people with your wiki or in this case cricinfo knowledge but intelligent people can see that you're full if shit.

I'll be roebucked if I keep replying to you though. You've hijacked enough threads with your nonsense in other forums. Enjoy the game.

Ponting has saved his career and will now have the NZ series to pump his avg a bit. With Watson and Marsh most likely to be out of the first NZ test I doubt he would have been dropped anyway though. Warner and Khawaja will most probably play at 2/3 for those guys.

Johnson will be replaced by Copeland and if Harris and Bollinger are not fit Siddle will probably retain his spot because I can't see them playing Copeland, Cummins, Cutting (or Pattinson) and Lyon in the one test team. There is around 25 test wickets between the 4.

Would be great to see Ponting push on and get his century to win us the game, although it still feels like we are only a wicket away from a collapse (as it always does really).

7 wickets in hand and 170 odd to get in an entire days play would have seemed like a forgone conclusion 5-6 years ago.... now it seems like a definite challenge.

We should get these runs, Cummins has been brilliant... I'd be keeping him away from the ODI side and letting him play T20 and test matches just to rest him up a bit. Good to see Punter score runs but hope he decides to pull the pin sooner rather than later. Khawaja is all class, a long career beckons. Johnson and Siddle just don't take the wickets... Get rid of them. Pretty happy with Lyon tbh.

Ponting saving his arse again by the looks, because nothing should be able to save that hack Shitchell.

Dropping Hayden back to shield cricket did wonders for his career, could work for Johnson as well.

When Hayden came on the scene he score a million runs in shield cricket, played a couple of test matches and failed.
Dropped to shield cricket, scored another million runs, got the call up again and the rest is history.

Obviously Johnson needs to go, and regain his spot if/when he bowls consistently well on all pitches around Australia.

Maybe call him up for a test match at the WACA if he's taking wickets there.

Johnson shouldn't come back into the Test side regardless of how good he bowls. He is 30 just no point going backwards. It would have to be exceptional form in shield to get a recall I would think.

As much as I want Ponting to move aside I sure hope he finishes the day not out/ There's nothing worse than seeing a champion wither away to nothing more than a memory. I hope he can do it and I hope that if he does he considers that a good way to bow out.

Johnson bowls great in South Africa - Myth Busted

Next up Perth? Lol that's all he has left.

Anyone see Chappeli's quote on cricinfo today in the quote/unquote section?

Ian Chappell said:
The problem is they also bowl plenty that could be hit to the boundary by a proficient club batsman

Referring to Siddle and Johnson. I love Chappelli, I hope the new selectors are paying attention.

unfortunately he is so true, Cummins showed control that only Harris and Watson have showed this series. Cummins and Copeland have to be there against NZ with hopefully Harris and/or Bollinger if they are fit.

I wouldn't care if he took 10-fer every Shield game he played. Never ever to play tests again.
