Makes the conditions very much suited to the South Africans if we get on the field.

A draw will give SAfrica the test series win, which is why I can live with that outcome, even though I am certain South Africa can win this test and that this weather (if play does commence today) will actually work in our favour.

I just think that's a record he deserved and I will be sad not to see him get it.

Is the weather really that bad over there?

It's not THAT bad right now, but it is raining. I don't think any play today is overly likely to be honest. It's raining now and rain is forecast for the rest of the day. Thunderstorms from midday, I think that if there isn't play before lunch, there definitely won't be any play after. It's still kind of hot there though, so if the rain does let up we may get play for a while.

taking the covers off now which is promising, but it is actually quite dark and there is still plenty of rain predicted less than an hour from now so I don't know how promising it really is.

cricinfo think the chances of play before lunch are now close to none with some rain back. I think chances of play after lunch would have to be slimmer.

11.35 am Firdose the optimistic has this: "It is getting lighter and rain is subsiding again. I can see a patch of blue sky as well. Looks better." Fingers crossed

11.15 am This is redefining bleakness now. The rain's got a little steadier, the weather is very cold.. It looks like it is getting lighter towards the north-west, so that's the only wisp of good news we have for the moment. Meanwhile, Morne Morkel is being a good guy and taking tea to the security guards standing around the pitch.

pitch is actually uncovered now, so we may get some play before lunch, which I hope they don't call til the rain comes back because forecast for the rest of the day is really bad.

even better, they are taking lunch right now, some work still needs to be done on the pitch but play is immanent. Hooray!
