Apparently our goal line defence is poor letting a try in every 7.something tackles when teams inside thr 20m (2nd worst)

I think SJ kicking game pins teams in their corner in a 10x10m box is where we are winning the defensive battle.
Yeah on the one hand that stat sounds terrible but on the hand we actually don’t let in that many tries overall, so it’s also a reflection of how well we play the territory game. SJs kicking, our ability to make metres with the ball in hand and our defence mean we just don’t spend much time camped on our line.

After watching the replay:

3 - RTS: massive game, he was everywhere
2 - Barnett: has really levelled up this year to the point where life after AFB is starting to look ok for us
1 - Ford: did all the good stuff we know he can do and none of the dumb stuff we curse him for sometimes. In that mode he’s a damn good player.

HMs Egan, SJ, Tohu, Berry, CHT, DWZ

no DMs.

3- Egan. Gaining as my 2nd favourite Warrior behind Lord Mannering. Gee I love him. Class, effort, skill. We are a completely different football team without him.
2- RTS. Probably should've given him 3 but I have an Egan man crush. Man, it is a bittersweet feeling seeing him kill it at No.1, knowing he'll be back in the centres soon.
1- Ford. This was the Dr Jekyll to the Mr Hyde, the good version. Definitely NRL class when he's on. Just needs to be consistent.

I want to give Rocco a .5, he's a bonafide top tier NRL centre on his form so far in 2024. He's come SO far from the early days adapting to the game, when you could see how heavy it weighed on him. Love the way he locks down one side but also has an attacking side and has an elite chasing and catching game.

HMs: Barnett (our best club player last two weeks), Tohu, Marcelo (solid until he got loose late), DWZ was great, Capewell had his best game, SJ was consistent, thought even Jazz was great when he came on.

Eight guys ran for 100+ and in fact all those 8 were over 139m.

Too late for me but I thought Egan was brilliant considering his return from a pretty serious injury.. looking forward to v the bunnies.

CHT showed us some too...

Interesting fact about our team vs Knights (that probably doesn't belong in this thread but I don't know where to put it).

The average age of the team is 27y 9m - and it's the oldest team we've ever put out, based on average age, right back to 1995.

Great stat, and takes me back to what I was saying the other day about Webster not playing Leiataua and Leiataua not exactly being a baby anymore. I don't think we should be stacking the team with teenagers or anything, but it's interesting that Webster has used 33 players, been coach for 31 games, and 3/527 selections across those games have been teenagers (3 games by Sifakula last year). I'd be surprised if that wasn't the lowest in the comp, to go with the oldest average age.

Also, 3 of our 5 oldest players were signed this year or last year.

Not casting judgement, just noting he's definitely got a touch of the Gary "Steady" Steads about him in terms of preferring older players and being a bit shy about giving younger ones a run.

Probably not a bad thing if it repeats some of the tough starts we’ve given some of our young guys over the years. Players like Kata & Kosi were dumped in the deep end early and it wasn’t good for them.

Was that before or after this game? Because it felt like our goal line defence was pretty good last night
Stat announced during the game. So suspect didn't include that game. Its not like we have had 40+ put on us. I just think we are keeping them out of our 20m with SJ kicking.
Edit: answered by others perfectly.

SJ leads the comp in kicking metres and were 5th overall as a team. We’re 2nd in both run metres and kick return metres (both behind the Panthers), which all adds up to playing a lot of our footy in good field position.
