3-2-1 v roosters

Not sure- I don't remember seeing him again either, but he looked fine after the game, didn't appear to be injured in any visible way.

EDIT; Annnd my 3-2-1...
3- Hurrell. What a beast. Multiple times he ran into the defensive line and left Roosters with stingers (or perhaps actual minor injuries, who knows? Cordner looked well gone in the first half)
2- Johnson. That defensive play on Jennings was pure gold. One or two blocks helping out Ngani in dealing with the kicks through also - a composed game.
1- Laumape. We simply can't afford to not have this guy in the team. The most special of players don't need much reserve grade between youth and NRL - and I'm comfortable now saying Laumape is one of those very, very special players in the making. Been among our best every week he's played. Long term he's probably Hurrell's centre partner, but jeez he can do quite a job anywhere in the outside backs. Amazing for someone I don't really recall standing out this much in the 20s.

Agree that Hurrell should get the 3. His defense took a step up tonight. He was enthusiastic, didn't look injured half the time, ran with power. Really good.

2. Elijah Taylor. Man he has come on. Why is he going now?

1. Manu/Laumape. Can't decide.

Who would pick Locke to replace the Fish right now?

Yes, Lowrie, 2 penalties and he missed as easyish tackle to let di%khead features to score.

Pretty sure Packer was dragged after about 12 minutes when he gave away a penalty on our line on the 5th tackle. Didn't see him again until 5 minutes to go before the end.

3. Laumape (We need this guy to keep playing first grade. I want him on the wing even when Locke is back. Did so much great work for us on both sides of the field)
2. Matulino (as usual)
1. Taylor / Fish (Both worked their asses off)

Defensive effort was unreal. SJ running down from behind in first half was amazing, not so mention his great run to the line at the start to put Taylor into the whole for a try. Loves seeing Manu with the confidence again to use his pace down the sideline. Very little to complain about this game except for Lowrie, who blows.

Remember last year when, late in the game against Melbourne when we were behind, Manu tried to get on the outside a couple of times and basically got completely ridiculed for it?

The difference is he's playing better this year and has the confidence to fully commit to those runs. Previously he wasn't running as well and he would hesitate and lose the split second advantage.

QFT. Manu is fit and running freely and is up to challenging the flanks. Last season he was not.

DWTA. Manu was running freely at the time referred to but tried to run around the also very fast Justin O'Neill and was unsuccessful.

Point is it all comes down to perception and if people are down on Manu they will find a way to criticise him. Manu played pretty well for a lot of last season but had a couple of bad games with his hands and people got dark on him.

Manu was pretty fit last year, it was really 2011 where he had injury issues. I must admit though, the little bit of weight he has lost (not compared to last year but to his entire career- I think he's at his lightest ever) does seem to have added just a fraction of speed. Was still fast enough to run down Inglis and Ferguson from behind last year though.

Haha, people are praising Manu for his epic recent performances... and you are complaining about them criticising him last season. Sheesh!

If people are down on anybody, they will find a way to criticise them. Everybody has their favourites and their arch enemies. Manu has had many forgetful moments in games, and as a celebrated, highly paid and high profile member of our team, of course these will be remembered and referred to whenever he has a poor game. Just the part of the reality of pro sport.

haha. Just getting my arguments in order for his next inevitable decline.

Difference with Manu is when he has a bad game it's "he's too old (since he was about 25!), too slow, too big, needs to be playing in the forwards, can't catch, shouldn't be in in first grade" etc. When he's playing well suddenly he's the most impressive specimen on two legs.

He's unusual in that when he gets criticised the criticisms seem to be fundamentally about whether he should even be a professional rugby league player. The perceptions of him are unusually extreme in their bi-polarity (if that's a word).

The same people who are praising Manu now were defending him last season. After all, he was our best back last season by a long way. I think he's like SBW- people expect him to produce a miracle play with every touch.

A lot of people are convinced he was terrible last season, and therefore injured, unfit, etc. Pretty sure last year was as good as he's looked physically for years (ironically better than years like 2008 and 2010 where he was gun but also struggling with injuries for big chunks). He had a couple of mares with his hands (most notably against the Tigers) which created one of those perceptual hurdles people struggle to jump over.

To be fair, I felt he was done on the wing last season. Done, done done. Too slow off the mark, too slow to turn, too this and too that.

And when he got injured in his first game this year, I saw history repeating and expected an injury-plagued season where he'd let in one or two for every try he scored.

I'm more than happy to admit I was dead wrong, Manu has done remarkably well with his rehabilitation and return (perhaps helped by better staff and more intelligent management?) and is now playing a true winger's game most of the time, and chiming in as the extra forward only when required.

He's got a fantastic combination going with Nielsen and the tries are ticking over with a minimum conceded down their flank.

I'll be back with the Manu to the forwards rant next time he looks lame for 3 consecutive games haha.

I really don't think this happened at all, imo he was in great nick physically last year, but agree to disagree on that. I spent all of last year banging that drum already

This reminds me, as recently as last week Wolfman almost scored that try where the grubber went in behind Manu and the old "he turns like the QEII" comments came out. Never mind that every human in the world is a lot slower when they have to turn around and start from scratch as opposed to a bloke running in a straight line with a run up. If Manu was chasing that kick and Wolfman was defending it would've been the same result.

And when he got injured in his first game this year, I saw history repeating and expected an injury-plagued season where he'd let in one or two for every try he scored.

Yep, this is the main thing for me. The regularity with which he gets injured always has me worried that he won't come back the same player (and he usually plays a game or two at 80% speed after a lay-off). Good to see he still has the same top end after all these years and injuries.

Ok stop me now, I'm sabotaging this thread with fan-boying.

I think it is an indictment on his previous coaches that this is the first season in his career that he is getting consistant ball in a bit of space. Elliot has to take credit for that. (and the rest of our attacking structure for that matter)

You should all be giving 3 points to SKD
So much butthurt for SKD.

How bout giving credit to fish for making that play?

or getting down on your halves lack of composure putting SKD under pressure on the last and forcing him to kick it...???

Theres always a scape goat.
Roosters didn't want it as bad as the Warriors.

SKD didn't drop it... Fish ripped it from his grasp. You didn't hear the commentators lamenting SKD's poor control... you heard them praising the Fish's epic try saving play.
The Roosters lost as a team, not as individuals.

Roosters fans online always seem to be the worst when it comes to losing butthurt.
