Blame the modern day batsmen.

They score at over 4 an over but can't bat for more than a session when there's even a hint of swing.

For sure. The pitch isn't even doing heaps. Look at how many got out playing awful shot's. Marsh, Smith, Root, Bell, Voges (first innings).

More like 425.

Can't see England overcoming their nuffiness to win this.

Team's are pretty evenly matched if you're honest - Aust not really as good a test team in these sort of conditions (which are fine) as the forum champ's would argue

No team besides south Africa is that good at travelling. That's good for world cricket. Makes overseas wins matter.

It is - but to be fair, we've been pretty good on the road :D

Aust seem to have a edge on RSA, but 1. RSA, 2. Aust 3. NZ is right - but in tests everyone is kind of close which makes things exciting, and certainly away wins or even drawn series are good

Michael Clarke's batting avg today dipped under 50 (49.74) for the first time since 23/4/2012 (48.78)

The last time Clarke's avg was less than 50, he scored back to back double centuries against South Africa (259* & 230)

Michael Clarke's last 28 innings: 687 runs (5 not outs) @ 29.87, 0 x 50's, 2 x 100's

Clarke has failed to score more than 47 in 26 of his last 28 inns. The 2 times he did: 128 v India & 161* v Sth Africa both in 2014

Clarke has scored 180 runs in his last 10 innings at an average of 22.50 and a High Score of 47

The selection of Voges over Burns because of 'experience' is perhaps, in hindsight, one of the worse and most short-sighted decisions Australian selectors have made in many years.

It has completely backfired on two fronts.

Firstly, they dropped Burns after a good test match and who knows what that did to his confidence. We have seen in the past how idiotic selection decisions have dented a players confidence. Also taking Burns would also have given him immeasurable experience.

Secondly, if we lose the Ashes, the bad decision to take Voges will have been compounded because our future (and current) batting lineup is looking extremely fragile. There is the high possibility Rogers retires soon, and with Clarke so out of form that honestly he would be dropped if he was any other player, only Warner and Smith would be worthy of a place in the team. That is why taking Voges over Burns is now looking like a massive mistake.

All this is hindsight, but I hated the decision to take Voges from day one. It lacked forward thinking. It showed the selectors only cared about one thing. Sure retaining the Ashes is a major objective, but not if it impedes in the development of a gun batsmen. A batsmen we need to be experienced in a few years.

All we can hope now is Voges shows why he was selected in the first place.

Thats a fairly big assumption, Voges had a pretty good season for WA last year.

I know he has a huge amount of love here, and fair enough - but his test average away from Australia is 41.7 (62 at home) - if he was a foreigner (think Jayawardene) the same fan boys would be bagging him

He's been a fine player - but not an Australian great imo

He's on the level below players like chappell and Ponting.

we are 23 runs ahead and 3 wickets in hand for start of day 3

There is no Anderson, but Finn and Broad are bowling real well, plus they will rest up overnight and come at us from the first ball.

If we are to have any sort of slim chance in this test we need to negotiate the first session with no more than 1 wicket down, preferably 0 down, which is very unlikely. Overall a lead of 150 plus gives us something to bowl at, if we get that far

But in reality Poms should be 99% of winning this game. Our 1% hinders on Neville being not out and batting through, and all the tailenders batting for a while supporting Neville

Should be 2-1 to the poms

Another day, another Aussie batting capitulation. Got to somehow win one of the last two tests now. So disappointing, it's like they believed their own hype after Lords.

Rogers - 52 & 6
Warner - 2 & 77
Smith - 7 & 8
Clarke - 10 & 3
Voges - 16 & 0
Marsh - 0 & 6

Super effort that from our top 6. It's like we have a team of Watsons.

Clarke is definitely an Aussie great, not many Aussie players would have scored 8000 runs in both Tests and ODI's(can't be bothered checking exactly how many but i know it would only be a few)

Helped get the Ashes back after a long time, came up big in WC final, came up big in South Africa to topple number 1 team away,he's helped Australia be decent again, definitely a Aussie great but wouldn't say all time worldwide great like a Viv Richards or Tendulkar etc etc.

I can forgive Rogers as he has done his job this series,i can forgive Smith a few bad innings cos he's basically the reason we have won anything over the past few years,i'll forgive Warner cos he came up big in the 2nd innings here.

I will blame Clarke,Voges and Marsh though, have a nice day.
