Remember the days when India had 2-3 terrible fielders and rest were average at best

Lucky to have one very decent one

By gosh they are all very decent these days

That's what professionalism has done for the game. The players are better athletes compared to 2+ decades ago.

Also, until around the mid 2000s (when the BCCI starting spending millions renovating their grounds), the outfield at nearly all Indian cricket grounds was very abrasive, almost like concrete, and not much diving around. The standard of some of those outfields wouldn't pass ICC venue requirements these days. I remember in one match Ponting got a cut on his arm in the late '90s doing a dive in the outfield when Australia toured India.
