He must do - he's need a run of tests, but that's unlikely with Lyon around until tours of the continent - when are you there next? Don't see either of them worrying the Indians much though

You are a weird guy jidge. There are literally 100s of cricketers who are very good at FC cricket but lack the x factor that makes a test cricketer. SOK could very well be that guy. He doesn't spin the ball a lot for one thing.

How Lyon and Nevill don't make ODIs is beyond me.

Wade - FMD! It's almost like a sympathy selection. "Sorry Wadey, we did promise you the test spot but this Nevill bloke has come along and, ahm...uhm...[ruffle papers; cleans spectacles]...how about some ODIs?"

He could be, but I'd like to see more of him, and he'd need more tests before I'd make that call

While Vettori wasn't a great test bowler, he was a good one (and a great ODI bowler) - he didn't spin the ball much, but still had a lot of variation

Lyon has clearly overtaken him as a bowler though

nope

You were using a couple of unusual results to extrapolate - bit dumb really

and from that, you conclude that Windies teams could never handle spin ?

I referred to one Windies team and never did I alledge that the Windies could never play spin

now that's spin doctoring at its best, or as I said previously, making shit up

Lyon's a good example of persevering with someone who they thin had the raw ability - he's certainly bowling well - that said, this pitch is rather helpful, as are the Windies

SOK is not a great spinner of the ball, more like a Vetori type with his changes of pace and spin, seen plenty of him playing for the NSW team but I was pretty disappointed with his bowling last night, no where near enough variation like he normally bowls, perhaps a few nerves.

I agree the West Indies probably have the better side on paper.

The key would be Shane Warne imo. The great West Indian batsmen of the 70s and 80s would never have faced someone like Warne. If they could handle him I'd say West Indies. If not Australia.

B._S._Chandrasekhar, Abdul Qadir, Narendra Hirwani, Mushtaq Ahmed (in 1990) - Shane Warne is plundered by Richardson in 1993. All things considered - it was one of Simmons better series. Subsequent weaker West Indian teams cause Warne to get dropped. True story.

As good as they were they did not handle spin very well, even at their best they flogged us about 4-1 I think it was but we beat them at the SCG. They struggled against the might of Murray Bennet and Dutchy Holland so Warnie would have bamboozled them.

They did, and their fast bowlers were good anywhere - remember for an extended period the only place they lost a test series was NZ

then how come a pair of nuffies like Holland and Bennett went trough them like a dodgy vindaloo and yet they were just about invincible against pace

they did not play spin well and we beat them in all their glory at the height of their success with a pair of nuffies who hardly ever played again after that test match

Someone should have told the Indian spin quartet of this weakness. And Pakistan's Iqbal Qasim to partner Qadir. Clive Lloyd, Greenidge, Gomes, Kallicharran, and Viv Richards cannot play spin well.
wrong era, I was talking 80s

batting lineup was Greenwich, Haynes, Vivvy, Lloyd, Gomes and Richardson et al

A 300+ score would be an achievement of sorts from the West Indies in this series. 282 is their best in 4 innings in this series.

Braithwaite's not bad for a #8 batsmen.

Pattinson getting a bit of tap in this over

Pattinson gets the last laugh. Probably a bit of youthful exuberance from Braithwaite
