Border never had McGrath and Warne at thier best. Tubby did and was not a great captain.
as much as i think taylor should have been dropped, he was a very good test captain.

Tubby was not a great captain :? I thought he might have been our best captain of the modern era in terms of tactics and turning Australia into the attacking team that it is now. 'Result Cricket' Tubby introduced after a period where draws were all too frequent.

He had a bad period circa 1996-1997 but by 1998 he was making a record equalling 334 not out in Pakistan.

Mate, 23 wins, 5 draws and only 3 losses under his captaincy. Can't complain about that

OK I agree his captaincy was exposed in the Ashes but I don't care whether his tactics are good or not as long as we win :D

Taylor, Border and S Waugh all may have been better captains tactically but only S Waugh had such a high winning %
As i said we will see what his record is like a few years down the track. when hasn't got two champions to call on like warne and Mcgrath. he and Hussey have been covering the cracks in the Batting for the last 12 months.

he went 19 innings without a 50 i think that is cause for being dropped. unless your Matt Haydud.

In that same period we retained the Frank Worrell Trophy at home, won the Ashes in England not to mention winning in South Africa for the first time since their re-admission to tests. He was doing his job as captain.

Warne wouldve done better and hed still be there

It didn't take long before we went on a run of 16 consecutive wins under S.R. Waugh's captaincy. The only slip up of note was losing in India in 2001, but that took some pretty amazing batting by Dravid and Laxman and spin bowling by Harbajan Sing for that to happen.

We went to an unprecedented level of dominance in the 1999-2004 era when he was our leader.

So did mike brearley  so your telling me if taylor was dropped Waugh or healy weren't fit to do the job. AUSTRALIA always pick the best 11 then the captain.

meh, tubby was great slipper and average captain, the same team went better under a different captain - tells me something.

Anyways......had my say.

I like this Monty fellow, has a bit of character.

just imagine how many it would've been under Warney

30 maybe
Who knows, Warney would have made a great test captain. still would, but his off field Antics killed his chances. Rightfully or Wrongfully.

Whoever has been our captain for the past 11 years and has been the most successful captain in test cricket. So why are we all complaining??
